The bookstore on campus was nothing like the one that sat nestled of a little side street in the university town. The Painswick Bookstore was newly build, modern, and well lit. The Reading Nook was the exact opposite; it looked so old Allie wondered if it had opened around the same time as the university itself. The room, like many in the town, still used candlelight. Little white candles floated in the air between the rafters, and they gave the room a dim, warm glow. There were too many shelves in the little shop, each row just wide enough to fit maybe two people standing shoulder to shoulder.

Allie was hidden away in one of those rows, one arm filled with heavy leather bound books. She ran her finger along the volumes on the shelve, looking to see if one caught her eye.

Not that she particularly liked to read..

.. but maybe reading in front of people would make them think of her as intelligent.

"I don't actually have to read them," she mumbled, pulling a book off the shelf at random, "just pretend I am," her eyes scanned over the title; Quantum Theories Applied to Hypothesized Transfigural Spell Research; Volume Seven.

Seven? Who would even believe she'd read one through six?

Allie groaned, "This is stupid."

From behind her, someone cleared their throat-- a sure sign she wasn't alone.

she dropped the books-- fully surprised --and spun around, "I wasn't talking to myself!"

... Well, there goes intelligent
