Well, everyone has been telling me to get an LJ; and it's finally here!
Tonight, as I am planning on going to bed sometime, I am really hoping that I'll end up someplace warm in my dreams. Why do you ask? For some odd reason, my brain has been sending me into freezing climates for a few months now. It was pretty cool the first time: I got to parachute into Prague, the atmosphere was reasonably chilly and the air was really thin. After landing safely, in a ridiculously flimsy parachute (my supervisor reassured me that it was completely safe multiple times), I trekked off into the city and got a cup of coffee.
The first time, it was great. I've never been to Prague, and for a while it seemed pretty convincing. The next time, I learned that apparently, my New England hometown had a neighborhood at Everest-level elevation. Once again, freezing, thin air (hope this isn't a sign of sleep apnea) and not so much as a friendly neighbor in sight. For five minutes after waking up, I still thought the place was real.
Now for the third, and most annoying dream. A family friend arranged travel to Brazil and South Africa. Sunny, gorgeous places filled with rainforests and savannahs. I was thrilled, packed my bags and was all set to go. Whisked away to South Africa, we landed in a city that vaguely sounded like 'Obama'; which happened to be at the point in the country that was the closest to Antarctica.
I thought I could escape the cold climates, but my Id (according to Freud at least) had better plans. Freezing cold, absolutely no signs of human life anywhere except for a huge Stalinist Hotel that was so lit up that it resembled something out of a Thomas Kinkade painting. Without any penguins around, needless to say it was a bit disappointing. On the plus side, I thought I could add South Africa as a country I had visited on the 'Where I've Been' application on facebook.
So, tonight, when I close my eyes, nothing but warm beaches will come to mind. Could work, or next thing I know, I could be on a Caribbean cruise that strikes an iceberg and sinks. Dreams are strange things, you gotta love 'em though.
