and things still stay the same

It's dark, and she can feel blood prickling out from the places on her wrists where the rope has rubbed her raw. There's no one here. Her lungs feel full of cotton and each breath is a wracking tremble, her shaking ribcage like that of a trapped animal, eyes dark and helpless. But that's what she is, after all. A mammal, with instincts and fear.

And when a crack of light shines through an opening door, people pouring in, and he- he's there, he's here, he's pulling her arms down with a pain like fire coursing through her shoulders- that's when she knows.

She feels this panic, this warmth, this love all mingling, and it makes no sense and it's nothing logical and she needs to touch him, needs him to be near. She's going to kiss him, to feel his breath warm on her lips, to know that he's there and he wants her because he always has and so has she and what the hell is the point in pretending? She doesn't do that. Why this?

But she can't move as quickly as her mind and he's in her arms before she can do anything about it. It takes a moment before everything in her breaks. She doesn't realize she's crying, sobbing into his collar until she hears him make comforting noises in his throat, low and warm against her cheek.

"Bones," he whispers, and it's almost an endearment.

And it's not, but it is - it's enough for now.
