Does anyone else have really strong scent memory? I always have... I have a lot of smells that remind me of specific events/places/times (vividly, too). For example, bug spray/citronella always reminds me of Georgia, as does that "woodsy" smell or the "after rain" smell. I cannot smell the colognes or body sprays that my exes used to wear because it reminds me so strongly of them I start thinking they're like, standing behind me or something. Apple spice air freshener makes me think of Christmas (IDEK). Etc, etc. For some reason that cold air/wood burning smell makes me think of Christmas too.
Today I sprayed myself with this perfume I used to wear a lot about a year/9 months or so ago. BAD idea. It smells like my old job, and it's seriously freaking me out. It's making me think of people I haven't thought about in months, and remembering stuff and I keep having these moments where for a SECOND I think I've like, time traveled or something.
Does that makes sense?
Anyway yeah, it's been bugging me all day.
ETA: I also have strong sound memories when it comes to music. Back when it was all about CDs, LOL, I used to get a favorite CD and listen to it OVER and OVER. As a consequence, certain CDs always reminds me of a time/place. "This Time Around" by Hanson reminds me of Georgia. "Harmonium" by Vanessa Carlton makes me think of my last semester at WCSU, when I used to listen to it when I drove to and from the school. And "Songs About Jane" by Maroon 5 makes me think of my first semester at CCSU, as well as summer in general, because I listened to it ALL the time that semester/spring/summer.
