This past weekend I went with one of the store owners up to NYC for a trade show. It was a fun trip (except for the scarily turbulent plane rides) and we got to find some good new products, I met some of our vendors in person, and we had fun shopping and seeing the city as well. It made me want to do 2 things:
* live in SoHo (I know this one is probably not likely unless we start making TONS of money or something else along those lines happens)
* get some more business related education

I've found that as much as I enjoy the creative side of things and architecture in school was fun, I'm really enjoying my current job more. And beyond just running the shop, I like finding out more about things on the marketing or finance end. I think that the company I'm at now will grow over time, and I'd like to grow with it, possibly getting to be some sort of buyer or marketing manager or something along those lines. I spoke to my dad about this and he suggested getting an MBA. I thought about it and spoke to Josh and to the store owner I went to the show with, and they both said it would be a good idea too. So now I'm doing some research and figuring out the steps I need to take to make an MBA happen. VA Tech has a satellite school in Falls Church that has an MBA program for people who work full time, which would be perfect. I'm pretty sure I could get in, but must do the following first (not necessarily in this order):

* prepare for, and take the GMAT
* take 2 accounting classes (pre-reqs in most MBA programs)
* find out about cost of tuition, financial aid, etc
* get some basic knowledge of business foundations...I took absolutely ZERO finance/accounting/marketing/business practice/etc courses in undergrad and when I just read MBA course descriptions I don't know what half of them are talking about. I want to have at least a basic knowledge of what's going on! Off to the library later today to get some 'for dummies' books to help with this :)

I'm excited. If things work out, I should be able to have the degree under my belt before we try and have any kids and I can do more career-y things. I hope it all works out like I plan!

If anybody has any GMAT, B-School, or MBA advice, please feel free to pass it on!!
