Since this is my first official year as a teacher, I'll need to let you know how this class will run.
First, you're all old enough to be taking this class, and some of you are considered adults, so there won't be many rules. I trust you're responsible enough to know the difference between right and wrong. If you treat me with respect, I'll do the same in return.
There'll be a lot of hands on work, not so many essays. I'm concerned about your actions and reactions in certain situations. That's not something you can do on paper. Be prepared when you come to class. I might not announce everything we do.
Grades won't be that important. What matters is your participation and determination. Obviously, you had to work hard to be in this class, and you'll have to work four times as hard if you decide to pursue being an Auror. This is only a taste. If I feel like you're only here to mess around, we'll have a chat.
Finally, for those under the age of 17, I'm going to need you to get parental permission for certain portions of the class. There'll be times where we'll take a field trip or two, or have guest speakers where the topic of discussion may be a little controversial. You can pick up a form from me. It's just a little something to cover my ass in the future.
