so my life is going well at the moment... well other than im broke... chris isnt.. but i am.. but i do get paid tomorrow *yay* lots of stuff to wrap up before school is out.. lots of stuff i should be doing right now other than updating like studying for my oral practical tomorrow since i suck at life at remembering all my manual muscle tests.. o well.. ill get to it sometime :)
but im pretty sure that tyler dueser (sp?) came into the athletic training room today and told us the most horrible story ever.. seriously.. i dont think that i would have been able to do what he did..
Type your cut contents here.
so tyler comes into the athletic training room and was like "is connie or chrissy around?" and we tell him no.. so then he is like "well i have something to tell you guys. did you hear about the accident that happened yesterday on 465?" there were a couple ppl who had heard about it and that the guy had died but i hadnt (of course) so he starts telling the story:
there was a road construction guy out putting up a sign of some sort on 465 by the median (i think it was one of those merge lane things - anyways). well, an SUV was apparently cut off or something, hits a car in the far left lane, spins, and nails the road construction guy and sends him flying over the median (less one leg) into the lane that tyler was driving down about 30 yards away from the impact site. luckily, he is able to slam on his breaks, gets out to see the guy has one leg completely amputated from about 1/2 way above the knee and gushing blood, the other leg is open-compound fractured in at least 6 spots (aka - bone breaks the skin), and the guy is screaming that his stomach is killing him. so, being first responder to the scene, he begins to help this poor guy. other ppl have obviously stopped becuase of the accident and all, but noone will help tyler other than a semi truck driver gives tyler his belt to create a turnaquet (sp?) around the amputed leg that is gushing out blood. he said that it almost didnt seem real that someone first of all was bleeding this much or that it was happening in the first place. the first ambulance was there in about 5 minutes and another came in about another 10 minutes. mind you, tyler didnt have gloves on while treating this guy and the EMS crew came up the north bound lane and the guy was in the south/east bound lane. tyler helped to spine board the guy, he had to hold pressure on the non existent leg, and had to help hoist this guy up and over the median. tyler was completely traumatized (and had EVERY right to be), but handle it pretty well at the scene.. however, he said that he couldnt sleep at all last night and cant get the image of the guy and him screaming, the blood, the leg that was amputated off and ripped apart at the knee.. just everything.. and then he ended up dying from blood loss and other complications about 3 hours later in the hospital leaving behind a pregnant wife and two daughters...
i could not imagine how i would act if i was placed in this situation. i would hope that all of my training that i sometimes take for granted would come into place and help me to do everything i would need to.. i hope that im never placed in a situation like that, but if i was that i would be able to act quickly like he did.. after he told us about what happened, he just left.. and after he left, we all sat there and talked about the situation and how that tyler really is well prepared and to act on a situation like he did.. and just yesterday we were talking about semis hitting ppl on 74 and the firemen having to hose off the interstate because some guy just got waxed while changing a tire on the interstate...
wow.. im still just in wow from the story.. sorry... thought i would share... and note: whatever you do, if you have to pull off on the interstate (or for that matter, any road i guess), watch out!
