“So-” Hannah said, raising an eyebrow at her best friend. “What have you been up to lately? We haven’t talked in a while.”
“Not much,” Lizzie said with a shrug. “Work mostly-they run their paralegals into the ground over there.” Catching up with her other childhood best friend hadn’t been her initial plan for the afternoon, but when Hannah showed up at her place of work, demanding they do lunch, who was she really to say no? “What have you been doing?”
“Same old, same old. Trying not to shoot myself over my intern exams,” Hannah shook her head. “You seriously haven’t been up to much?”
“Not really,” Lizzie shook her head.
“Haven’t been dating anyone?” Lizze’s eyes suddenly became very interested in her coffee at that one, and Hannah’s eyebrows went into the air. “Ohhh-who is he?”
“No one,” Lizzie lied, taking a sip of her coffee, and Hannah rolled her eyes.
“Bullshit, you’re a horrible liar,” Hannah smirked. “You at least like someone.”
“There’s really no one,” Lizzie replied, shaking her head. “Don’t you think if there was really someone, I’d tell you.”
“Not if you were embarrassed about it,” Hannah replied, watching her face for a minute before her eyes went wide. “Oh, God, you’re not still hung up on Robert Pino, are you?”
“Well-sort of,” Lizzie replied, shrinking down into her chair slightly. “We’re kind of-dating.”
“Dating?” Hannah frowned. “So you mean he actually made a move?” Lizzie nodded and Hannah leaned back in her chair with a smirk. “It’s about frickin’ time.”
Lizzie grinned. “It’s been nice. It feels right.”
“So I take it the sex is good then?”
“That’s none of your business,” Lizzie replied flatly, and Hannah raised an eyebrow.
“You two haven’t done it yet?”
Lizzie’s eyes went wide slightly. “I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to,” Hannah grinned. “If you two had done it already, you would have blushed as you told me it was none of my business, and since you didn’t, then you haven’t.” Hannah watched her for a minute before smacking the table lightly. “Why the hell haven’t you jumped him yet?”
“We’re taking it slow,” Lizzie said, shifting uncomfortable.
“Taking it slow?” Hannah sighed, her eyes wide in shock. “You’ve been taking it slow for twelve years, why are you doing it now?”
“Because he was in an explosion, and he couldn’t even sit up straight, let alone move?”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Just making sure it wasn’t because-” Hannah’s voice trailed off and Lizzie gave her a look.
“Because what?”
“Because you haven’t really done it much,” Hannah finished, and Lizzie suddenly looked even more uncomfortably.
“I’ve done it enough.”
“Lizzie, how many boyfriends have you had?” Lizzie started to open her mouth and Hannah cut her off. “Not including Robert.”
“Five,” Lizzie replied quietly.
“How many have them lasted more than a month?”
“Three.”
“And how many of those three have you actually slept with?”
“-Two.”
“You ever had a one night stand or anything like that?”
“No.”
“Right. So in the twelve years since you kissed Robert, you’ve had sex with a grand total of two people. That’s not a lot.”
“It’s not like I’m a virgin, though,” Lizzie replied. “I know what I like and what I don’t like, I’m just-picky. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“No, there’s not. But it would be a reason of yours to wait.”
“We’re taking it slow. His last relationship ended badly, there were the injuries-we’re going slow.”
“Okay,” Hannah nodded, pausing for a minute to take a sip of her coffee. She waited until Lizzie started to eat one of the cookies she had bought, and then smirked slightly. “But when you do start having sex-you’ll tell me, right?”
Lizzie looked at her for a minute, before shaking her head. “Don’t make me waste this perfectly good cookie by throwing it at you.”
Hannah grinned. “I’ll be looking forward to the update.”
Lizzie sighed before shaking her head. “Just drink your coffee.”
