LJ has chaged a few things

I'm confused.

OK, here is reason number 1121 why you should never piss off a fundraiser:

I had a meeting today with a metro area hospital marketing director who will remain anonymous - not to protect her identity - merely to protect my job. I spent 30 minutes listening to her utter and complete disappointment in not receiving the value from the hospital's high level of sponsorship.

Her view: their hospital didn't gain any new patients and we should have PAID for print ads to advertise the hospital and their doctors.

My view: she had a lot of opportunities to activate their partnership with one of the world's best branded organizations, to leverage their advertising dollars to get publicity regarding this partnership, and to communicate with me what she needed from this partnership. She was difficult, contradicted herself constantly, and refused to reply to my emails or phone calls throughout the past 8 months. Plus, we would not be a good stewards of donor dollars, if we used them to advertise people's companies. We do not pay for advertising.

Throughout my conversation with her today, I realized that she is extremely unprofessional, cannot present a coherent argument, and doesn't follow her own reasoning. She also offended me greatly.

I will not go into details, but let me just say that the meeting ended with her saying something to the exact affect of: "Please make sure that your E.D. contacts us as soon as possible, the longer you wait, the lower our donation will be."

I have to conclude by saying that my to-do list includes the notes, "schedule dr apt for birth control" and "schedule dr. apt for dermatologist." I had just received this particular hospital's directory and was getting ready to become a proud client of one of my major sponsors.

Yeah. I don't think so. Not anymore. I'll be going to the competition.

Here is a lesson for all potential sponsors: I love my sponsors - LOVE them. I will be one of your most faithful customers. I choose Walmart over Target, because two years ago they donated to my event when Target rejected me. That's how we fundraisers do. NEVER overlook anyone that you come in contact with as a potential customer - ESPECIALLY the planner of an event that your using to market your company.

We never forget.
