Grey chest hair. No privacy. A short temper, shorter when he's tired. A deep philosophical- a fucking personal need- for his country- each of his countries, all of them- to get it right. Less sleep than he needs. More loneliness.
A loathing of feeling sorry for himself. It's ridiculous, it's unnecessary. It's more than halfway to October, thank God. Just another birthday.
He lets himself drift, drives himself down the currents, restless in mind and spirit, restless, restless.
He picks up the phone when they call. He picks up the phone to call them.
