The match starts, and I am very confident because I won my previous match in decisive fashion and with little effort. My opponent, meanwhile, has had two tiring matches to reach this final match. Such was the bracket.
I am seeking a strong tie up with an overhook on the left arm. (I don't quite know why, but I feel really comfortable with that grip.)
0:02
I get the overhook easily and begin to pull the arm deeper and deeper under my left armpit. My weight on his shoulder provides control and connects me to his motions so I can feel what he will do. I now seek a grip on the back of his neck
0:04
He attemps an outside leg sweep takedown, but I can easily step out because of my arm tie, as he cannot reach my leg on that side. I've sunk the arm grip deep now, and have tucked his head down and into my chest to further control his body.
0:10
I'm now turning his head with my hand to create pressure on his neck by taking all the slack out of the tendons, and the ref calls time because we are out of bounds. We will be reset in the middle. I was thinking about a darce choke.
0:19
We tie up again, and I go for the same over arm control.
0:22
He tries to pull guard, perhaps fearing my control in the standup (this is otherwise a bizarre tactical error.) I base with my right arm and hop his guard, coming all the way around to north south position.
0:28
I control his hips an stabilize the position - this involves getting a tight grip on his arm by sliding my forearm down to his armpit and dropping my shoulder weight into his elbow (thereby creating a prying pressure on the arm.) I pull my legs in, and think about getting the armbar.
0:34
I wonder if I have points for side control here, and feel as though I have a very dominant grip on the arm. I decide to go for the armbar if it presents itself.
0:46
He rolls to try and achieve top position and I immediately begin to position myself for the armbar. People tell me to go for the back, but I am sure of the arm. I will seek to hook under his body with my right foot by creating space with my left arm. I also stay close and tight with my right arm to maintain the hook and pressure his arm.
0:54
I haven't gotten quite under his torso, but the hook under his leg is enough. I establish a figure four grip on his arm and begin to pull it out with the leverage of all my body. My hand tries to push his wrist up and away from his body, but he grips his other hand (a common and sound defense.)
1:00
I get my foot under his torso, and roll him over (pulling with my left foot, and pushing off the ground with my right.) The figure four grip on his wrist keeps me close and tight; he now cannot use either of his arms for anything except defense of the armbar.
1:03
I try to hook my leg over his face to create the best possible leverage for the armbar, but he is tucking his head tight and positioning his body well. I will adjust position and try again. The grip on his arm still feels very secure.
1:06
I catch his head with leg and apply intense pressure. I am pretty very now, it's only a matter of time.
1:08
He rolls and tries to stack me, but as I have the figure four grip, this defense will not work. His arm will not rotate as needed. I again roll him using my right leg pressing off the ground. I then hook it back over his face and apply more pressure to his arm. Since his grip feels solid, I think about sliding my foot in under his far forearm to create a lever against his grip. I also consider the option of switching to a reverse triangle choke if need be.
1:18
He drives and rolls as I reposition my foot. I get it in position and begin to force it under his arm and this pops open his grip. I slide it further in and hook his arm so he cannot re-grip.
1:20
Using his far arm for leverage, I roll him again.
1:22
Now that I have his arm seperated, I let go of my figure four control grip and pull his arm straight. I will need to rehook his head to finish the armbar.
1:25
His arm is straight and in my control, but his elbow is not in the right position and my foot cannot leverage his face, i will readjust his arm and then hook his face again. I'm switching the control grip to the wrist and thick of his palm.
1:27
He sits up and I rehook his face with my leg. The arm is now mine and I stretch it out, lifting his whole body if need be.
1:29
The arm is now extended and, as I begin to apply enough pressure to break it, he is now incapible of doing anything but tapping or falling to take pressure off his arm. He falls.
1:32
He taps and I let go.
