Happy New Year!

This is the traditional post-Yuletide-reveals post. This year turned out not as big as it could/should have been but a little bigger than last year. I wrote 5 fics (assignment + 3 full length treats + madness fic) across 2 fandoms. No firsts this year, I think, not even fandoms which...wow. I feel like I'm growing lazy lol. (Also no War and Peace requests I could have written for this year :/) One thing I did do this year was write a long-ish fic (prob not long enough to qualify for long!fic per se but like...over 10k which is hella long for me). This year was mostly a slash year with some fem and a small sprinkling of supporting gen and het.

(My 2 gifts this year were incredible, btw! I'll talk about them more in a seperate recs post later.)

Stuff I wrote:

Title: Scandalous
Fandom: Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812
Characters/Pairings: Dolokhov/Anatole, Helene/Natasha, Dolokhov/Helene, Anatole/Natasha
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3,185
Warning: canon-typical incest inuendos, referenced/implied period-typical homophobia
Summary: Helene knows how Anatole will react to developing feelings for Dolokhov. She's seen it before. It doesn't bode particularly well for anyone involved.

Comments: My assignment! I really enjoyed writing this, tbh, even though I'm not sure, in the end, if I was able to give my recip quite what she wanted. It was fun to put a somewhat new twist (than what I usually write) on Anatole's relationship with Natasha as well as the backstory of his Polish marriage. But ultimately a happy ending for Dolokhov/Anatole because they deserve one (and also OTP lol) :D I also got to work in the scene with Dolokhov reading Natasha's letter to Anatole and them having UST over it - something I've wanted to do for a while.

Title: The Lives of Others
Fandom: Captive Prince
Characters/Pairings: Jehan/Stable Boy
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,415
Summary: After being (almost) mistaken for the Prince of Vere, Jehan comes home to his lover.

Comments: I wrote this one for a fandom friend and I'm super happy she made this request because, man, what I love most of all about CP is not so much the protagonists as the supporting and minor characters (as is not uncommon for me, lbr - I'm this way with HP, too). Also, there seems to be some...ah ~uncertainty in fandom over how canonical it is that the tavern prostitute is actually named Jehan. But that really makes the most sense to me so I'm sticking with it ;p

Title: Runaways
Fandom: Captive Prince
Characters/Pairings: Aimeric/Jord, Aimeric/Regent (past)
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 12,461
Warning: Implied past sexual child abuse
Summary: AU. Jord catches Aimeric as he attempts to return to Ravenel...and they decide to run away to Vask. But that's just the beginning.

Comments: This is the long(ish) fic I wrote. I've had this idea in one form or another for a while but the concrete outlining and writing was done in the span of a week, so...faaaast. I was on a roll with it. There were totally like 3 days in there when I did almost nothing other than write this fic, though... I was really excited to give Aimeric and Jord a happy (or at least hopeful) fix-it ending that felt right and satisfying to me. What that kind of ending looks like exactly took me quite a while to figure out, but after finally getting my ass through the 3rd CP book I was better placed to make this decision so... Here we are. Also, the recip's prompts were fantastic, so I just couldn't resist. (Sidenote: I need to be careful when I writing OCs...they like to hog screentime, especially ones like Aiden. I'm still pissed at myself for giving the Prince of Vask a banal name like Aiden but he's been Aiden in my head for so long as a "placeholder" name that I just couldn't bring myself to change it in the end.)

Title: Could Not Help Loving You
Fandom: Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812
Characters/Pairings: Natasha/Mary
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,103
Summary: In the year after the events of Great Comet, Natasha and Mary come together.

Comments: TBH, I never thought I'd be writing this ship. But Great Comet has a way of bringing out the crazy in my War & Peace feels so... I actually really like how this turned out and I think writing this made me appreciate this ship more.

Title: Closure
Fandom: Captive Prince
Characters/Pairings: Aimeric/Jord; Loyse
Rating: PG
Word Count: 944
Summary: When he was young, Jord's mother told him that the best way to get closure for someone you've lost is to visit their grave.

Comments: I think if this fic had been written earlier it would have been longer. This prompt really caught me up (kind of by surprise) and I desperately wanted to write something for it. I really love Jord and Loyse is an interesting character to explore. Also, there was something satisfying in putting them together in the context of mourning Aimeric.

As always, this has been great fun :D Thank you to alll the Yuletiders for another fantastic year!

paring: jord/aimeric, paring: helene/natasha, character: natasha rostov, character: jord, character: helene kuragin, character: maria bolkonski, slash, character: loyse, character: anatole kuragin, character: theodore dolokhov, fanfic, femslash, paring: natasha/mary, character: aimeric, fandom: natasha pierre comet of 1812, paring: dolokhov/helene, gen, het, paring: dolokhov/anatole, fandom: captive prince
