looking back on old writing projects

So, back when I was in high school (about 15-16) I worked on/posted (but never completed) a multichaptered longfic (~25k words were written before I stopped and I think that was about 1/3 or maybe, at best, 1/2 of what I had planned for it). I wrote and posted other stuff around that time but the thing with this fic was that it was (relatively for me) SUPER POPULAR. (It was a SW high school AU ok, yes, I wrote that shit.) The premise started out as a joke on a TFN thread and so the fic was originally meant as crack but I can't write humor to save my life so...it ended up being more like a mostly-lighthearted dromance or something lol. (For those in the know, it's Facades. I think I even had the first 3 or so chaps up on here.)

But, that's not the point. I the point is that recently, out of nostalgia (and because I still feel guilty for never finishing it), I went and looked at, read + schemed through most of the chapters. Things I discovered:

1) My writing has definitely improved. OMG. Some of the wording in that fic is so awkward. (Also, wow, I was even worse with typos and stuff back then...although I kinda already suspected that.)

2) I could actually write plot? I mean, it's cliche plot and helped along by mirroring the movies a bit but...it's plot! And it moves along at a good and mostly even pace...wow. Have I somehow sacrificed my plot writing ability by gaining more style skills?
