Huh. It sounds like I would probably dislike this scene, too, but I've never been able to get into Stephen King and am not much for horror in general, so I can only commiserate from afar. Maybe it was supposed to be an allusion to some kind of ancient/pagan/magical sex ritual? Is King into that sort of thing?

Huh no. King is into all sort of mythical stuff, but it's more...scifi-y, I guess? So really, if it was a reference to a pagan ritual it really did not come across and would have been complete out of nowhere.

I get how King might not be for everyone. Although, I thought that between LOTR and all the murder mysteries, he wouldn't be that much out of your way :)
