From IMBD on the upcoming BBC War and Peace miniseries:

"A story that revolves around five aristocratic families, set during the reign of Alexander I, and centered on the love triangle between Natasha Rostova, Pierre Bezukhov, and Andrei Bolkonsky."

That's their storyline summary. I really REALLY hope IMBD are just being fuck ups and that that's really NOT how the writers/producers/directors are seeing/treating the book.

War and Peace is NOT centered on a "love triangle." Pierre is NOT part of a love triangle. He only realizes that he has a thing for Natasha AFTER everything has ended between her and Bolkonski. If there IS a triangle it's Bolkonski/Natasha/Anatole. But the book isn't centered around that EITHER. Yes, love stories and other relationships play large parts in the book. But it isn't centered around any of them. AND THERE IS NO PIERRE/NATASHA/ANDREI LOVE TRIANGLE.

I know, I know. I care WAY too much about this. Sorry. I just...really want this series to be good? But the more I hear about it, the lower my expectations drop.

I hate-hate-hate this idea that some Russians like to perpetuate that Europeans can't make good adaptations of classic Russian lit. I think that's bullshit. There are also lots of things about the old Soviet miniseries that I don't like. BUT it's the version that is more true to canon. And it makes me think that I would REALLY love to see a modern Russian miniseries adaptation.

wtf, bitching, fandom: war and peace
