BBC broke my heart
I wasn't going to make another post today, but this is important (because it left me a tad heartbroken).
So BBC is making a War and Peace adaptation, right? They've announced the cast. I was going to make more in-depth post about this, but for now suffice to say that actors playing Pierre/Natasha/Andrei Bolkonski are acceptable. Although I'm suspicious about how they're going to transform Rose from Downton Abbey into Natasha, but we'll see. And Andrei errs on the pretty boy side which annoys me and please tell me he's not going to keep that blonde hair.
BUT.
They case Tom Burke to play Dolokhov. ARG. JFC what is wrong with you people? No offense to Tom and it's not about his acting but just visually he is not the type AT ALL. MAYBE if he loses that beard and gets a nice haircut it won't be a complete disaster but... This also signals to me that these guys are going for a very conservative reading of canon, which I was afraid of to begin with. *sigh* (I'm not surprised, really, though. Tom is similar in type to the Dolokhov in the old British W&P miniseries.)
I don't know yet who has been cast for Anatole (or Helene) but my excitement for this adaptation has just plummeted. It's too bad. BBC could actually bring in something like a fandom.
