gifs and obscure historical figures
So I finally have "Catherine" on my computer! Which means I can make lovely thingies like GIF :) The quality is pretty meh but I take what I get, so to speak.
Also, a little upset that there is no English wiki article for Christian August von Brockdorff. There's a Russian wiki article though - I was even thinking of translating it, but I have no idea how to make a wiki article, so I wouldn't be able to add to the general well of knowledge that is the wiki. Short version is: before Peter III was called to Russia to take his place as the crown prince, he grew up in a German/Prussian family. His father was close with Brockdorff's father. Peter and Brockdorff obviously knew each other as kids because by the time Peter was called to Russia (he was like 14), Russian ministers had decided that Brockdorff had such an influence on him, that he should not be allowed into the country. So when Brockdorff tried to follow Peter to Russia, he was turned away at the border. Several years later he ended up basically sneaking into the country anyway, came to Petersburg, got a warm reception from Peter and stayed as the latter's Kammerherr. I'm sure the "real" motive behind all this was something along the lines of money-position-power. But the more romantic (read: slashy) theory is more fun :D
It took me a couple of re-watches to really start to appreciate the guy in the show. He's one of those characters who's ALWAYS around but also almost always in the background.
