"magical minorities"

I've come across meta that talks about how Teen Wolf draws parallels between racial and other minority discrimination and the discrimination that werewolves and other supernatural creatures face in the show. And, even if the show doesn't MEAN to make that parallel, fandom has certainly made it.

Personally, I thought there was some really problematic logic going on there. On the surface, it works, but when you think about it, it's really not such a good allegory.

THIS META does a really good job in explaining why magic criminalization in fantasy is a bad stand-in for real-world discrimination. (Spoiler alert: real minorities aren't dangerous, "magical minorities" are or have objective potentials of being such.)

(And, you know what the reverse effect of this is? It suggests, that real minorities ARE actually potentially dangerous, but we're being asked to ignore that or hope that they'll have enough conscious to keep their dangerousness in check. Which is pretty fucked.)
