online education

Ok, I may have never actually taken an online class in my life before, or know anything about online education, but I still have opinions about them.  Originally, I thought that they required more discipline for the student, and in some cases, more money which is just a pain. However, I just recently read an article about how it is also easier to cheat in an online class, which I suppose would be made considerably easier with no actual teacher in the room with you.  My old room mate used to take an online hybrid class as well, and she never even had to leave the room - it would be much better to not have to take any buses or miss any lunches, but then again, the whole thing would result back to self discipline, which in my case does not even exist.
There are even whole institutions, onilne schools that are online, for nontraditional students mostly- I would probably never take those, although I can see the appeal of them for young parents who could log on to do things while their child is finally taking a nap, or when the kid wakes them up in the middle of the night to be rocked back to sleep.  They seem to be faster and cheaper, as well as more convenient.  However, I am a traditional student, and am not very into the idea of taking online classes - how else would you be able to meet other people, or even learn anything? Seeing as how I lack the self discipline required to study on my own for a regular class, I know that I would not learn a single thing for the online classes.  And most of my classes are ones that I need the knowledge for, if I were to take a random elective, I would be doing that for fun, which again defeats the purpose of taking online classes. It would be an excellent way to rack up credits, though, and for young parents seeking online degrees.
