Re-meeting an old friend

Monkey House Games released Villains and Vigilantes 2.1 in the wee hours of the morning of the 27th.

why 2.1? Because this is pretty much the same game as the 1983 revised edition, although there are corrections, one or two neccesary changes (new example of play because they don't have the rights to the characters in the old one) and some additional material...and the big one, ALL-NEW art by Jeff Dee (except for the cover that was drawn by Jeff Dee in 1985 and used in Living Legends...now presented in full color).

V&V was the second superhero RPG released when the original version was put out in 1979 and until 1981, had the field pretty much to itself...then Champions came along. Back then, I thought Champions was way better. Now, I can't bring myself to spend that long making a character or that long resolving a fight. V&V is fast, quick, the character creation can be a hoot (random tables to determine powers).

These days, V&Vs main competition will be Mutants and Masterminds, and I'll say right up front; M&M is a better game, and the new 3rd edition/DC Adventures will be even better. But I have a fondness for V&V. The PDF is $7.50, the whole rulebook is 62 pages or so...even the print version isn't going to be hugely expensive. And all those old adventures are totally compatible...and there were some great ones.

Gonna have to take this old classic for a spin...
