CHAPTER FOUR - Dancing Queen
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful, intelligent girl who was absolutely baffled by boys. She never wanted much; just a smart, gentlemanly prince to love her. She had the hardest time trying to find him. Every once in a while, she would stumble across a boy who she thought was her prince, only to be very mistaken.
Then she met a boy, in the glow of a spotlight, who she thought might just fit the role of her prince. He wasn't perfect, but she wasn't perfect either. The girl thought that this boy pictured her as his princess. But week after week, month after month, everything was the same. No fairytale. No love. No princes.
The girl gave up, but a little bit of her still held onto her 'almost-prince'.
She continued on with life, not bothering with silly boys and even sillier princes. As time went on, the girl began to notice another boy. No, he wasn't a prince, but he was gentleman, and he made her smile. The girl couldn't help but notice how handsome this boy was; handsome like a prince. Still, she knew that he wasn't the right fit. Like that beautiful stiletto thats just 1 size too small, he simply wouldn't work.
Frustrated, the girl gave up. All she wanted was to be the belle of the ball just once. She wanted to be that girl with all the eyes on her; with her prince on her arm; in the warm, glamorous spotlight. It wasn't meant to be, was it?
The girls friends told her that the second boy was her prince. He would take her to the ball, and they would be the stars. She was still unsatisfied. A piece of her wanted her, now elusive, distant 'almost-prince'.
All she wanted was the be the dancing queen for one night. Confused and lonely, the girl rejected her friends, avoided the second boy, and evaded her emotions.
There is no happy ending to this fairytale. Only a pensive gaze out of a castle window, longing for the life below in the warmth of the sun and the comfort of a princely embrace.
