Dark Sanji Fic of Angst and Woe....AU.

Dec 02, 2010 03:55

Another fic from the beta graveyard. This one was inspired after reading a dark AU hitman reborn fic of Gokudera goodness.

Basically. What if Sanji got a little bit crazy on that rock...?

Title: The price of one eye
Words: 932
Warnings: No pairings so people who don't like Yaoi could read (I secretly think it's a little SanLu but alas). DARK. Death.
Notes: ThisisTony and I had a discussion about the aftermath of this fic, a potential meet up with Zoro, but the true gem...the revelation of a romance between a teenage Ace who loathed pirates and a young Sanji reuniting lovingly after so many years only to learn that Ace was a pirate now and had the worst parent possible and for Ace to learn well...what happens in this story.

Because of pirates, Sanji lost his only home he’d ever known, every friend he cared about, and use of his left eye. He also nearly drowned and starved to death. Because of pirates.

He probably wouldn’t have felt so strongly about it if he hadn’t lost that eye. Yes, starving was torture…but somewhere inside he told himself he deserved it. Deserved to see why wasting food had been such a sin. The eye though…he couldn’t rationalize its loss with anything tangible and it occupied his thoughts entirely when the hunger began to rip his sanity apart. The bitterness of losing that eye eventually filled in all the cracks.

He was just a kid and yet somehow the universe had seen fit to take his eye. Making it sting and fester and ooze with infection as he wasted away on that rock. He was maimed and forever disfigured due to the singular misfortune and injustice of being aboard a ship attacked by pirates.

The shitty pirate captain…the one most to blame was also the one to save him and strangely enough share his passion for food and that dream of All Blue. He was trying to atone maybe. Sanji didn’t think they were even but knew he needed someone, he was just a kid. Zeff would be the exception to his wraith no other pirate alive would get the same mercy.

Until the world was rid of their filth there would be no justice.

After their rescue, the marines had come to file a report and Sanji demanded to speak to one of the officers alone. They pawned him off on a Lieutenant Smoker who looked barely out of the academy.

“What the hell do you want brat?” He’d been asked with an intimidating growl and maybe Sanji would have been intimidated if he hadn’t felt so filled with purpose.

“I want justice in the world. I want to learn how to kill pirates.”

He would think later that it must have been the right thing to say.

Over the years he had learned to cook from the old geezer and even learned the bastards style of fighting. Zeff thought of him as an adoptive son. Sanji thought of him as the origin of his purpose and the lucky exception to his cause. A boss and a strong teacher…but a pirate would never be considered something like a father. This thought he kept to himself.

He cooked. He trained. He learned. He flirted with women. He avoided getting kicked. Then he would go take leaves of absence to restock or just venture into that nearby island that held the other part of his life.

His trips to the marine base the Lieutenant had referred him to also grew more and more fruitful. His involvement in the marines went from unskilled, unofficial tutelage to professional, official rank. He was considered ‘on special assignment’ at the Baratie after properly convincing the higher ups of his dedication.

A perfect spy undercover at the gathering place of all manner of thug, pirate, or marine. He would send information via Den Den Mushi to HQ when he couldn’t act and just take matters into his own hands when he could.

Then the Strawhat pirates came and the Kreig pirates came and Mihawk and if only it hadn’t been on the old mans home and his base of operation could the carnage get any better. Pirates destroying other pirates, there was a beauty to that. A simplicity that appealed to him as both a cook and fighter.

Like the winds shifting though the group scattered. He reported Gins last known location with the defeated Krieg fleet and the direction the lovely Straw hat navigator was last seen going. Somehow that left only the captain himself in his…care.

Straw hat Luffy fighting for the geezers home and stake in some future title he was never going to earn was a bit touching. So touching he had dived down and saved the hammer idiot from drowning and bandaged him up.

He would wake up soon. He would ask him to join his crew again. He would feel like maybe there could be another exception.
But there couldn’t be.

He placed the boys hat on his head and drew his favorite knife across the boys rubber neck until it was off. He ignored the twitch of life that burst up only to snuff out a moment later.

It was a disgrace as a chef to defile his knives this way…but it was more a disgrace as a covert marine to let this one get away. He was one of the good ones. A captain that could really inspire loyalty and create followers. Sanji could tell. He would have grown strong enough to topple governments and threaten the world.

The boy had been interested in All Blue and Sanji wouldn’t let that affect him. He was still going to find it. He just wanted to stay here a little longer but then he’d hit the Grandline with the marines and find it himself.

There were plenty of other pirates to kill along the way. This was just one.

A sharp pain twisted behind his left eye and he sighed. Maybe he could let himself regret this one a little. He did seem to enjoy his cooking.

For now though he had a mess to clean up, a head to ship to HQ, and soup to prepare for dinner. He hoped the shit geezer wouldn’t be too disappointed the once chore boy was dead, after all he and the Baratie were safe another day.
