Just a reminder that the photos I took on Saturday were already dumped
here, before the con was even over (I couldn't sleep Sunday morning). Anyway, I was up bright and early Saturday morning (I never sleep late or get hungover at conventions; that all tends to catch up with me later when the con is over) and joined the Maxwells and others for breakfast. At 10 AM, there was the practice/prep/blocking meeting for the Phantom of the Paradise floorshow, and
the show itself was at 2 PM.
Among the events that followed were a Q&A session with the guests, Transylvanians Kimi Wong and Perry Bedden (pictured above with
Σοφωκλεσ). They posed for pictures and provided autographs (Perry signed
the front of my con badge, and Kimi
the back). After this event was over, we all adjourned to my room for a final rehearsal/meeting for
our preshow.
This is the sort of thing we missed while we were upstairs rehearsing:
Sarah from
Sins O' The Flesh (the LA cast throwing next year's convention) in the Costume Runway/Fashion Show. I believe she won a prize of some sort.
The first preshow was a sketch by the
Vestal Violators of Binghamton, NY, called "The Romantics".
Our preshow was second.
The third preshow was
Sins O' The Flesh's "Monsters of Rocky" preshow, which they also did at the
Atlantic City convention last year. An excerpt can be found
here.
The fourth preshow, if I recall the order correctly, was
Help Me Mommy's rendition of "I'm Tired" (Madeline Kahn's number from Blazing Saddles). A video can be found
here.
The final preshow was by New Jersey's
The Home of Happiness, called "The Home of Happiness Casts a Shadow" (although I believe it was originally to be called "Ten Movies That Shouldn't Be Shadowcasted"). In the picture above, they are acting out a scene from Schindler's List, which is playing on the screen behind them. This was followed by (I don't recall the exact order) scenes from such movies as Borat, Roots, The Passion of the Christ…
Also re-enacted was a pivotal scene from The Crying Game, as well as bits from
Transformers and
High School Musical 3…
They did something clever for The Ten Commandments. Spoofing the way VH-1 used to include on-screen audience participation cues ("Throw toilet paper now!") when they aired The Rocky Horror Picture Show, they showed a scene from The Ten Commandments with the Pharoah discussing the plagues tormenting Egypt - and then flashed on the screen "Throw frogs now!" Castmembers tossed handsful of frogs at the audience. I brought some back to Richard as souvenirs. I wonder exactly what he thinks we got up to while we were away for the weekend, coming back with weird stories and plastic frogs…
By my count, I've forgotten one of the ten movies. Anyway, they culminated with a scene from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Like us, they were taking a stance critical of Repo!'s attempt to push its way into the cult movie fandom, whether we like it or not. This scene which they reenacted,
Zydrate Anatomy, is now the only part of the movie which I've seen. Here
Larry is playing Amber Sweet.
In case you've never seen the film, Amber Sweet should look a little more like this (
bmajors).
Not much to say after that. I didn't bid on anything in the auction (other than Kimi Wong, but
Kevin told me that only he's allowed to own a Transylvanian) or buy any raffle tickets, and I declined (as I often do) to attend the showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the end of the night. (I've always prefered seeing things that are new and different, like the preshows; ending the con with a movie I've seen thousands of times just strikes me as anti-climactic.) Anyway, here's
Q playing one of the Transylvanians. Doesn't she look sheik?
