Mandy was ready for a night in with her favorite book. She had saw the post about Riley's party but had no reason to go. Also she certainly didn't want to have a run in with Daphne even though she wouldn't have minded seeing Draco again, it just wasn't worth it.
After making dinner she curled up in room with Pride and Prejudice, her favorite novel. She always loved Austen's writing and it was one of the firstl "big" book that her mother bought her when she was younger.
Mandy jumped when she heard her floo go off. She didn't know who would be here and certainly at this hour. She reached for her wand when she heard Terry's voice ring out. Well this was a pleasant surprise. She quickly climbed out of bed and ran down the stairs and to the living room, where she saw her best friend, "Terry?! What are you doing here? And are you alright?"
Not even hesitating, he wrapped his arms around Mandy and gave her a hug.
As he held her for a second, he replied, "I'm alright... I..."
He let go, and shook his head, just happy to have someone who was always so honest with him and easy to be around. "Tonight just fucking sucks. I needed to see someone normal."
MAndy quickly hugged him back being confused at what in the world was going on. Soemthing just didn't seem right with him.
She studeied his face when he broke apart and frowned. Well clearly he was okay. "WWell I'm glad you came here, although I don't know about all that normal stuff."
She grabbed his hand and led him to the kitchen while she started making tea. She pointed to the chair, "Sit and talk."
Mandy filled up the kettle and set it on the stove beofre turning and looking at him. She leaned against the counter and listened to him.
When he said he went to Riley's party she couldn't belive it. She shook her head and looked at him, "You went there? By yourself you just went to a Slytherin party to find Daphne? Why in the world Terry?" Mandy couldn't figure out what would make him think he could do that? Obviously it hadn't gone well.
She sighed and sat down with him, "Clearly it didn't end well?"
"Well no, I went with Drew," he said defensively, not knowing that anything had happened between her and Drew.
"Well, basically she told me she's trying to protect me. So basically we're over because she decided its best," Terry said bitterly, squeezing the top of his nose, right between his eyes, where a headache was starting.
Mandy froze, "Oh that's interesting," she said bitterly. How interesting the boy who was hating on the Slytherins is going with his step-brother to a Slytherin party. Especially for him to help Terry when he hated her so much.
Mandy shook her head and grabbed his hand, "I'm sorry love. I wish I could help you. We can have our own party yeah? Like the old days?"
She shook her head, "Yours is more important Terry. I mean Drew and I weren't even dating."
She didn't know if really she should get into it since itw as about Daphne, "He stated his not so high opinion of Slytherins and you know me, with my mum and everything I'm not a fan so I kinda went off."
"You know I feel that same wasy too. I even tried to explain that we need to not focus on that. I mean you know how I don't like many Gryffindors, but I looked past that for Drew."
She sighed and placed her head on the table, "I screwed up. I don't know what it is but with Andrew, I don't feel like myself but not in a bad way. I really like him Terry."
"Don't let something like that go," Terry pleaded, putting his head in his hands, elbows propped up on her kitchen table.
"Trust me, I feel like I've lost so much. You guys can work through something like that. Whatever it was, it's not worth it.Honestly, Mandy, I see the way he watches you. You fluster the poor bloke. It's actually kind of amusing," he pondered for a second, letting out a quick laugh, before continuing, "And since you obviously feel the same you two can work it out."
Mandy heard the kettle whistle and stood up and got the tea ready for him before returning and setting a cup in front of him.
"I hope you're right as selfish as that sounds, he's a good guy." Mandy couldn't believe how much she missed him. "Terry you don't know, everything could work out with you and her. Yes I'm not a fan of hers but you are crazy about her and who knows when you two get back to school it could work out."
School. It sounded so far away. Terry had all of August and part of September to wait until he was back there...
It was weird to think of going back. Everything was not the same, all over again. The Dark Lord was out there, recruiting, maiming, plotting.
"With all the batshit craziness in the world, I would hope the one relationship I managed to have wouldn't have to survive on the terms of Hogwarts alone," Terry sighed, taking a tentative sip of his steaming cup.

Sitting here in Mandy's kitchen was normalcy. He'd forgotten how much he'd enjoyed the comfort of her house.
"I don't know if you heard about the party tonight, but I showed up at that Slytherin O'Dannihugh's mansion looking for Daphne..."
Terry let his words drag off, waiting to gauge Mandy's reaction.

"Wot? What'd I say? Did something happen with you two?"
It was weird to him that he hadn't caught on from Drew, but then again he knew Mandy so much better. Besides, he had been pretty occupied himself.

She sighed this was her best friend, "We got into a bit of a fight the other day."

Immediately Terry began beating himself up about not being a good enough friend. "What happened?!"

"I can't be with Daphne because I'm not a Slytherin. Everyone's worried about houses, and blood, and I can't deal with it anymore. It's nauseating!"
