"Where?" I asked. I squinted up at the mountain Mom was pointing at, but didn't see anything.
"Just behind the mountain. Tomorrow we'll cross Raxenwell's border and a few days later we'll be at Queen's Keep."
A shiver went down my spine as I thought of Queen's Keep. All the stories my mother had told me about the place as a kid had made it seem like a place filled with power and wonder. Adalon had ruled there, briefly. It was a place that had always been no more than a dream to me, and the stories were just that - stories. But now that it was real and Adalon was real and Queen's Keep was where the crown - the crown that I was apparently the heir to - was kept. All this struck me like a wave and I was suddenly afraid.
Arell, my newfound aunt, broke the magic of the moment by elbowing me in the ribs. "Wait till you see the armory," she whispered in my ear. "Much cooler than any old castle. And I'm teaching you to fight, my girl, no matter what Adalon says."
She glanced at my mother as she said this, but Adalon stared serenly ahead over Dream's ears and pretended she hadn't heard.
