*Madame de Tourvel is looking for a place to sit when she happens upon Courfeyrac on the porch. For a brief moment she is startled to see someone there, but she quickly recovers herself and asks, politely* I do hope I'm not intruding upon you?

He turns quickly, barely keeping his balance. "Oh! No, no, not at all. Public place," and flashes a smile.

[madame_tourvel]

*She starts forward in worry at seeing him nearly lose his balance* Oh, you must be careful, sitting in such a precarious position! I certainly wouldn't want you to fall on my account! *she smiles back, slightly tentatively* Even if it is a public place, I do think we ought to make our introductions before I cause you to fall again. *pause* I'm Madame de Tourvel.

"No, no, I'm perfectly safe." Cocky bastard. "Aimery Courfeyrac. Delighted to make your acquaintance, Madame."

[madame_tourvel]

*She gives him a little unsure smile, as though to say, 'if you say so'* And delighted to make yours as well. *belatedly, she curtsies, sweeping her skirts out as she does so. It's a practiced movement* This is an odd place, isn't it?

Courfeyrac approximates a bow in return, still clinging to the upright. "It is, rather. Are you new?"

[madame_tourvel]

I suppose so - I just arrived a few weeks ago. *slightly confidingly* Truly, I never have been in a place at all like this.

He offers a smile. "It does take getting used to. All these peculiar people..."

[madame_tourvel]

*she nods* Of course, I'd known peculiar people before, but never in such great numbers. *pause* How long have you been here, monsieur?

"Oh-- I don't know. About a year, I should say." He runs a hand through his hair, bemused.

A year! That seems a great deal of time.

[Typist: I got to that. :P]

"I suppose it does," pensively.

*brief pause* Since you have been here so long, can you tell me whether there's any sort of organization here? I mean, just as an example, would there happen to be a church, or anything of that nature? Or do people simply wander around like this all the time?

Courfeyrac looks up at her in surprise. "No," he says after a moment's consideration. "Not that I ever heard of."

[madame_tourvel]

*She, in her turn, is surprised that he should find her questoin so surprising* How odd, that there should be so many people in one place and none of them should try to organize anything like that. *considering* But people are odd.

"It is. I hadn't thought of it before."
