There are a lot of technicians here, actually, all milling around or typing on computers or what-not. A bunch of busy little geeks who probably couldn't even fire a gun straight if their lives depended on it.
There's a woman with short black hair over in one corner, chattering with one of the higher-level workers. She giggles now and then and tells 'Sam' to stop making so many jokes. The techie grins for a moment before frowining and scratching idly at his arm.
The woman turns her head to look at him, giving Krauser a good look at her profile. It's one of the STARS people. Yoko, to be specific.
She frets over Sam for a moment before he waves her off. His voice is barely audible. "I'm okay, ma'am. Ant bites make me itch, that's all. It's been on and off for a couple days."
Yep, Suzuki. Krauser, on his mental tally card, has dubbed her Fifty Points.
What? Everyone here has to die.
She's talking to a (two points!) tech; he's looking a little green. Krauser reaches for the pocket containing cigarettes, then glances up at the no-smoking sign on the wall. Yeah, he's lighting up before he gets out of here.
Said fity-point target is currently fretting over Sam the techie again. He's definitely looking green around the gills, and he hasn't stopped scratching his arm yet. He makes a face and scratches harder.
A vague idea seems to hit Yoko and she scurries off towards where the break room probably is. She comes back with a washcloth and a cup of water. She wipes Sam's forehead, looking grim. Sam downs the cup of water and just looks at her.
Come to think of it, the other techies look ill, too. What's going on around here?
Krauser glances up, waiting to see if anyone's going to hit the emergency signal--it will seem to go off, although it's not going to get help immediately; that's delayed. There's a layer of protection in case anyone calls out.
He also heads back out in the hall. Calls are prohibited here, but he can knock twice on a closed door and head back the way he came, having delivered the signal for it's starting, start your program and get the hell out.
Someone's helping a friend down towards the sick bay. He glances at his watch. Early cases; it's a little while yet before this place really gets going.
It doesn't look like anybody's about to punch the emergency signla just yet. Maybe when things get hairier than they are now. But for now, everything could just be a mass case of allergies or something.
Sam stumbles out of his chair and heads for the sick bay. He doesn't get far before he falls on his face. Yoko rushes over and kneels next to him. She hesitantly puts a hand on his shoulder, probably trying to make him feel better.
He doesn't respond.
She stands up, hands over her mouth. "S-Sam? Someone! Help Sam! Please!"
Funny how in a station full of sick people, Yoko's the only one still looking perfectly healthy.
Oh, there's time. Krauser comes back in to hear that, and glances around the room. Hunh. If everyone in here stays put for a little while longer, and doesn't call out? This could get a lot simpler for him.
He crosses over. "What's the problem?" Response, not much action.
Besides, he wants to hear how she intends to handle this.
She's got her back to Krauser, kneeling down to check on Sam again. "H-he's... he's not getting up. I don't know what happened. He said it was just ant bites, but... he didn't look so good."
She glances up sharply at the clatter of things being knocked over. Two more technicians have slumped over at their consoles, one of them breaking her coffee mug in the process.
"What's going on? Th-this can't be just allergies." On that much, she's right.
There's a pulse. Very thin, very reedy, nearly nonexistent. This poor guy must've gotten exposed a lot to be in this condition so soon.
"A-all right." Yoko scoots over to the female technician, checking on her quickly. No response. So she looped her arms under the other woman's and began pulling her towards the med bay.
"I don't know, Miss," Krauser says, respectfully. Damn. If they're dying already he'd better step things up; he moved a little faster. "You've got her? Need a hand? Maybe we should get down to the doors next, check that they're secure."
"N-no, I've got in under control here. You help Sam. I'll help..." Here she checks the woman's nametag. "Amelia here. U-uhm... do you work here?" Just a bit of curiosity.
"Let's go. Th-they need all the help they can get." She has no idea how ironic that statement really is.
"No. I got called in to get a report from the field directly, add my own notes about the situation, pass it on." He shrugs. "Classified information, you know how they are about the chain it travels."
Otherwise, more people would know his face and he couldn't do things like this. =:=D?
"Mm-hmm. A need to know basis and everything." Aah, beuracracy. Yoko struggles for a second with Amelia's weight before moving again. "I-I'm here to check to see that the relays are working properly. Th-the usual inspector didn't come to work today."
There are more people outside, looking very ill. One of them stumbles into a wall before shaking his head and walking towards the sick bay. It's eerily quiet, too.
"Called in a specialist, hunh?" He reaches over to steady her burden.
She's not looking sick at all. Odd.
The sick bay nurse is working, although he's looking a little green; Krauser glances over to the button on the wall and sees it depressed. Still going as planned, although the time window's rapidly closing.
"C'mon," he says, settling the man on the cot. "We'd better finish a look around, find the rest of the able-bodied." After all, right now it's only the two of them.
"W-well, I know my way around computers." It was her job, after all. Before the kaboom. And the zombies.
Yoko follows, giving the sick bay nurse a soft nod of hello. She sets the unconcious(?) Anita down on one of the few empty cots in the room and wipes away a layer of sweat from her own forehead.
"Y-yes. There's bound to be someone else. Th-they can help with the sick." It's ust the two of them. So Yoko'll be sticking close for now.
"Probably something contaminated from the break room," Krauser says, casually, as they hit the hall again. "It's a pretty confined place." It's getting a little quieter here; there are guards in worried discussion near the checkpoints, but the base itself is quite tiny; it's only a communications area. "I'm sure they've already called the city for a water check."
Yep. He's positive they have. Look how certain he looks. And a little curious; how is she feeling?
Probably he doesn't want to be left the only healthy person.

Sure. It'll save him a trip to this room later.
