yesterday, the snow finally stopped and the sun shone bright. it must've almost broke zero for the first time since fall. it was so beautiful that nathan and i propped open the door to the record shop with milk crates, just to let in the fresh air. i went to the chip-truck around the corner and saw the boy at the bus stop, all sunglasses and shaggy blond hair, arms full of art supplies. he shot me an i've-seen-you-around look: "hey, is your name emily?" "um, no. but, see, i think i've sold you records before..." and it's exchanges with strangers like this that never fail to make me smile, people who are friendly just because. back at the shop, i sit on the windowsill, back pressed against the glass to soak in the heat and light, savouring poutine, and nathan and i are silent because nico's chelsea girl is playing on vinyl and it is too lovely to interrupt with words.
