Delaine wasn't the type of kid who used to stare outside the window for hours, especially not to think, however, that evening was a bit different.
There wasn't any reason, really, he just felt like it. It was just a coincidence, really, but while he was lost in thoughts, he managed to notices the familiar figure down there.

He was an emotional kid, but even then he rarely felt so irrationally angry and... scared? He didn't know how to react, seeing Owen's figure. Staring at him for some more, it took him just a little to come up with what was right.

As quickly as he could, he headed outside, and stared at Owen.

So much had been going through his mind when suddenly a familiar boy stood not 5 feet in front of him. It was his former roommate and the source of many headaches. However, he couldn't help but smile. It was a weird kind of feeling. Like seeing someone you thought was dead just 5 minutes prior. Of course this situation wasn't as serious, but for all he cared, it might as well have been.

He quickly found his voice and said awkwardly, "Delaine?"

Delaine hated it. When he saw Owen smiling, he couldn't help but getting angrier. What exactly was that he wanted? Did he seriously thought that coming back was a good idea? Had he even stopped to think about the people he had left behind..?

Katori probably never hated Owen. He probably would have been happy to see he was back, and although Delaine knew it, he chose to discard that.

"Go away." despite the fact he was feeling so many emotions, despite the fact he was angry, he sounded so terribly cold "And never come back. Don't let him see you."

It was like a dream and someone had just thrown water on him to wake him up. But really... why was he so surprised? He should have expected such a reaction. He just didn't think it'd hurt this much. Not only that, but how was he supposed to respond? Would everyone feel this way? Would he really be denied entrance back into S.E.E.S.?

"I-I...," he stammered. "I'm sorry."

And with that, he put his head down. It was too hard to look the small boy in the face, but he wouldn't turn way. Not just yet.

"I don't care." it wasn't exactly true, he did care, but... that didn't matter. Right now, what was important was preventing Katori from seeing him.

He would just hurt him again

"You're a problem, so, go away."

He picked up his bags and turned around. However, he didn't move. This was going to be harder than he thought. He could either leave right now or he can try again. The latter seemed like the better choice. Turning back, he begins to walk a little towards Delaine.

"I'm sorry. I can't go back. Not now. I have too much I need to do. So much I need to say."

How dared him. Too much he needed to do? Too much he needed to say? He should have done it long ago. He should have done it before he left.

"I don't care!" this time, he shouted. Although he wanted to look cold and distant, he just couldn't. It was clear it was nervous, it was clear he was angry, and if Owen were to pay attention, he might even have notice that he was about to cry "Do you think you can do this, and act like nothing happened? You can't! Do you think that words can change what you did? They can't! You left Katori when he needed you, you just ran away, and I'm not going to allow you to hurt him again!"

It was rare for Delaine. He never talked so openly with anyone before, and in any normal situation, he wouldn't have ever admitted that he was worried about someone else.

"If you break him, I'm going to break you! It's not jealousy, and it's not just a childish fight either!" he explained, and then just added "Just disappear again!"

Was he...? No. It couldn't possibly. He was probably just in the heat of the moment. There was no way that Delaine would cry so openly. Dismissing the thought, he walked a little closer and put his hand on the child's shoulder.

"I know there's nothing I can say or do right now to make you forgive me, but I will keep trying until you do. There wasn't a day that passed that I didn't regret my actions. I ran away when the going got tough. I know that. But... do you want me to just turn around now without at least trying to fix my mistakes?" He was shocked at how serious he was being. He was being more sincere than he had in a long, long time, and it kind of scared him.

"I've gone a long time trying to live with myself for leaving him. If it takes my whole life, I'd like to make it up to him. Please, please be the witness to my attempts."

He listened to everything that Owen said before doing anything, before even moving just a bit. It wasn't because he was particularly interested in what the other was saying, it was because he knew he had to calm down.

Finally, when Owen had finished talking, Delaine just pulled away.

"I hate you" was the first thing he said, and he meant it. Still... even if he hated him, even if he didn't want Owen to have his chance he... knew it wasn't his place to take Katori's decisions. "Nothing you're going to do or say is g oing to change anything. It's too late. But fine. I'll be the witness of your pathetic failure."

Too late? He hoped that was said out of anger, and not honestly. He shook the thoughts from his head. The last thing he needed was to think about that.

"You have every right to hate me." He looked down again in shame before quickly starting again. "But thank you. Thank you for giving me a chance."

He threw his bag over his shoulder and began to walk past the boy. "I really am sorry, y'know..." He laughed softly at himself for thinking he could get past the boy so easily. Delaine wasn't like other kids. You couldn't give him a comic book and expect everything to be ok. This was going to be quite the year.

Although he did let Owen walk past him, he wasn't going to stay silent. He wasn't like other kids, yes, and this, to him, was a very serious matter.

"'Thank you'? What do you think, that I'm going to let you do what you want so easily? From this moment on I'm going to let Katori see what a pathetic spinless coward you are. I'll allow you to see him, but this doesn't mean I'm going to stay silent and let you have your way."

Some things never change. That's what they say. Right? This certainly was correct when it came to the two of them. Delaine had always been the biggest obstacle when it came to Katori. It just seemed that this time was more serious. However, he liked a challenge.

"Fine. If that's how you want it, I'll prove you wrong. You won't be so smug once I win back the respect of everyone here." All this was said with his back to the smaller of the two. In a way, Delaine is and always will be his "rival in love," and Owen wouldn't have it any other way.
