spoilers for the finale

So, I'm trying to rationally deconstruct how it came to be that I was that taken aback at the resolution of Kara's storyline and her relationship with Lee. I'm trying to understand how this all fit together in Ron Moore's head considering that I know he was invested in Kara and Lee's relationship - we didn't get endless seasons of it for nothing - and that I trust him to at least have SOME kind of sense, even if I don't agree with it, when it comes to doing these things. From all the podcasts I've read and the show I've watched he usually has a plan - even though it doesn't always come through clearly and in general isn't necessarily logical.

So, I'm just really trying to understand how Kara and Lee's relationship was supposed to be viewed, from the POV of the show. Maybe if I can make it make sense with the canon I'll find a find a way to make the finale make sense somehow (since right now my brain is just totally blanking out and giving me images that never existed of Kara and Lee hugging at the end and going off to climb mountains together).

So, from Ron Moore's interview here, he says Kara Thrace died and was resurrected and came back and took the people to their final end. That was her role, her destiny in the show.

So, from this, I'm going to understand that Kara and Lee's relationship ended in Maelstrom. That was the real end. They were together, they couldn't make it work due to circumstances (a theme that was brought up again and again and popped up int he final episode as well) and then Kara died and that was that.

And S4 was a kind of... epilogue. Kara's ghost back from the grave so Lee could say goodbye one last time, say a few kind words. Remember how many times RDM said "even if Kara comes back, she won't come back as Kara Thrace BOY DID NO ONE CATCH HIS FULL MEANING I GUESS.

I mean, to have a season-length epilogue is crappy all around, but really, this is the only way canon makes sense to me. Because when Kara came back she wasn't even interested in Lee anymore. Not really. They were friends but I can't remember a single scene where she saught him out and needed him. Kara was all about Earth and her destiny and what had happened. Lee was a comfort at times, but that connection they had, from her end, didn't seem to really be there much. Not like in seasons past where no matter what, every few episodes Kara would find herself flirting or frakking him.

Don't get me wrong, this theory still means the canon execution of all these things SUCKED ASS, but at least this way I can make the relationship meaningful somehow in my head. If S4 was all about Lee saying goodbye, well then I'm not surprised he did so quite easily by the finale.

It really did feel to me, his "you won't be forgotten," as the final word in a long mourning process.

I don't know, I thought you guys would have some thoughts on this, and maybe some of you would find this helpful (I know I'm trying to find something to allow me to look at a single K/L scene ever again without feeling like an idiot who followed a relationship that apparently had zero meaning).
