So I am back from China, the month went by super fast and I had a blast. I guess the most important thing is that I got an A in both classes that I took, but it didnt feel like a Maymester, it was more like a vacation. The entire group was super cool. You did have a few people that would get annoying or would complain way too much but that was seldom. I started off in Beijing, went to the Great Wall, got chased up and down the wall by pedlers trying to sell stuff. They would be at the crest of every hill so you would be out of breath and couldnt really say no, you just had to keep walking. I had one guy jump in front and me and not let me pass, it was really fun trying to outrun him. The next day we went to the Forbidden City, which was pretty cool. Its really big, you can see the pictures in Photobucket at some point in time.
The next city went went to was Xi'an, this is where the terracotta warriors are located, I saw them and it was awe inspiring. Really cool. I met some Canadian guy who read by UNC shirt and said "Hey, the North Carolina Blue Devils." I am now a wanted man in China because I killed the guy. In Xi'am we got into a car accident, we got hit by some guy while we were taking a turn. Traffic over there is crazy, the cab drivers are INSANE! Taking bicycle lanes instead of car lanes. The lanes are painted on the road, but no one stays in them. I am surprised that we only got in one accident. If you go to China, take a cab and you will never complain about Atlanta traffic and driving again. Another thing that is really bad in China is the pollution, out of the 1 month that I was there I saw blue sky on only 3 days. Seriously is bad.
The next city was Zhengzhou where our host University was, lots of Chinese english language students, they always wanted to talk to you and ask questions and everything. Here is how my typical conversation went: "Wow, you really tall, you like the NBA." "Yeah, its okay, but I like college hoops better." "What is college hoops?" At this point I try to explain to them what it is and they dont get it so I eventually tell them I am from Atlanta and: "Oh Atlanta, the Hawks!, Do you like Yao Ming?" "Yeah he is pretty good" And then they walk away, thats it, anyojne under 6 feet got question about shopping and girls, or school, I just got NBA and Yao Ming. In Zhengzhou I also saw Star Wars in Chinese, the Emperor is way scarier in Chinese. It seemed to be pretty cool, I got on the internet and read the screenplay. Pretty good movie. Also, in Zhengzhou I ate at Pizza Hut, it still tasted Chinese. The inside of a Chinese Pizza Hut looks like an Olive Garden, really wierd, me and the guys I was with felt underdressed. Also, in Zhengzhou we found a cool pub called the Target Pub, the owner and driven from Beijing to Paris in 25 days, he had all of the pictures up on the walls, awesome guy and an awesome place. Spent alot of nights there, got wasted a couple of times, threw up in the back of a Chinese cab while listening to Jack Johnson's Sittin' Waitin' Wishin', once. It was on the radio, I didnt take any of my cd's, I almost died, so I got an Mp3 player and filled it up from one of the guys computers. Saved my life.
Okay from Zhengzhou we took an overnight train ride to Shanghai, pretty cool, couldnt sleep, so we watched movies on a DVD player. In Shanghai we saw an acrobatic show, the Bund (which is awesome at night) and just went bar hopping and picked up some American girls. On the last night there we found a bar called Plan B, ran by a Canadian, played American music, and hit on some English girls. Rocked out to Rage, Metallica and Nirvana and played pool. Shanghai is cool a huge metropolis. I could seriously libe there. Getting lost in a cab we found a Malone's and a T.G.I Fridays, it was pretty cool seeing those reastaurants in China.
From Shanghai we flew to Chicago, got delayed and got into Atlanta at 1:30am. Great trip, got home and bought the new Beck and Audioslave, both are awesome cd's. I am still on Chinese time, I went to sleep at 5:00pm and just woke up to write this thing, so I will probably be up most of the night. Hopefully when I get all of my pictures developed (there is only like 450 of them) I will be able to post most of them on the web, so look for the link in a few days/ a week.
