Hail to Eir

This is the cold and flu season and for some reason this year seems to be hitting us with a vengeance. There is a nasty one that is hitting us here. It hits as a head cold, you seem to get well, then in turns to stomach flu, then it comes back as a head cold again. It's sweeping through everywhere. Even some high school kids are getting TB.

Raise a horn to Eir for health and recovery.

But also, as a public service announcement, the health officials are now calling for an end to the use of antibacterial soaps. They kill the healthy bacteria on the hand and body and lead to the breeding of superbugs.

Also, avoid use of antibiotics as much as you can, especially for head colds. For sinus infections, which are often part of the virus and antibiotics won't cure any way.
What you can do to stave off a sinus infection is try to catch it when you're first getting congestion.
What you can do is this: Go to a health food store and buy a container that looks like an Aladdin's Lamp.
Directions should come with it, and maybe even prepackaged solution mixes, but here: use 1/4 teaspoon of salt, put in a solution of very warm water in and tilt your head to one side, insert the "nose" of the lamp in one nostril and let it completely run through, by tilting your head up just slightly. If clogged, blow your nose. Then repeat on the other side. The idea is to tilt your head as much to the side for the solution to reach your sinuses Do it twice a day. It may sting slightly, but that's good, it means the solution is reaching your sinuses.
This should help, especially if you're passing yellow gunk that turns clear as the day goes on. If you're really feeling brave and reckless you can put a drop or two of tea tree oil. It will really sting, but tea tree oil is one of the best disinfectants I have ever used. I used it to cure an ear infection. Ouch does that stuff sting.
My naturalpathic physician in Frederick swore by the stuff.
But if you are persistently feverish, sweating and passing deep yellow gunk for more than a week, then you might have a secondary infection, and then you might need them. I'm not a doctor but I tried this myself and avoided using antibiotics.
Otherwise, it just takes times. Prepare to have this for at least 14 days, longer if you have a compromised immune system.

Raise a horn to Eir, think of her, think of all the children of Eir whose immune systems are compromised in this Yule season. And the children who have to stay home during this season.

Hail Eir, hail all her children! Hail the children!
