So, I hadn't even left the country before I was reminded about the number one thing to put on this list: The queuing culture. After spending a fun couple of days in Sunny Southampton, I headed up to Stansted on Friday to catch my flight. I think we were boarding from gate 32 or something, and when I arrive there there is already a huge group of people. Some minutes later they say over the loud speaker that the Easy Jet flight to Frankfurt has just landed at gate 30, and that boarding will commence in about 15 minutes, but can people please remain seated meanwhile. About 80 per cent of the Danes jump up and begin squeezing to gain the best position in front of the gate. Nevermind the fact this is not actually their flight at all - we're flying Ryanair to Aarhus from gate 32. Anyway, by the time it is time to board our flight, they say over the load speakers again that please could people remaind seated, apart from those travelling with small children. No one budges from their place in what can't really be described as a queue. The poor parents and kids eventually get through. Then, they ask people with check-in numbers 1 to 65 to come forward. Everyone seems to choose to ignore this and pushes forward. I overhear an elderly couple whose tickets carry a higher number in a verbal fight with the check-in attendant who refuses to let them trough. They can't stop complaining about how unfair this is. It's not a pretty sight, but in the end, we all manage to get through. Then comes the next problem. Ryanair doesn't assign seats, hence the pushiness at the gate, and everyone is determined to get *the* best seat. After all we'll be flying for all of, oh, 1 hour! In the end, the flight attendants have to ask people to please, please, please just choose a seat and sit down so we can actually get going. Oh, how I love my fellow countrymen!
