Might take a bit to find him, but I’ll see if any of my contacts know where he is. I really do wish my father hadn’t destroyed the Bat Computer.”
“Maybe you should start making your own. You have access to the cave and the house. I’m sure you and Robin could get it going. I can help clear out any rubble too.”
“You’re just looking for an excuse to flex your muscles,” Huntress teased Powergirl with a grin. “I appreciate the help. It really isn’t a bad idea. If I’m going to step into my father’s place as the protector of Gotham City, I need some way to keep track of what’s going on.”
Huntress didn’t mind letting Powergirl give her a ride to the penthouse where she lived. It was on top of one of the tallest buildings in Gotham City, built by Wayne Enterprises before her father had given up being the Batman, Bruce Wayne, and became the Police Commissioner. The wind friction along with the wind chill dried her costume, but set her teeth to rattling as they landed on the patio where Helena Wayne’s small black cat wove a dance party between the heroines’ legs.
“Nice cat,” Karen Starr said as she picked up the purring fluffball stroking under her chin until the cat closed her eyes in pleasure. “She’s sweet. When did you get her?”
“I found her in a dumpster one night on patrol. I had to take her home. My mother was Catwoman after all. I can hardly leave an orphan kitten to die in a garbage can.” As they entered the apartment, both women froze. “There’s someone inside.”
Kara focused her x-ray vision, peering through the walls of Helena’s suite. Seeing the outline of a tall slender woman, she tilted her head towards Huntress to whisper. “It’s a woman. Don’t think it’s one of the ninja’s though.”
“I’ll handle her then. I don’t want to have to redecorate if you go in first.” She tugged off her cape and mask, pulling on a dark bathrobe from a deck chair, and popped open the sliding glass door. Even out of costume, she moved like what she truly was, a child born to shadows and darkness. Quieter than her kitten, she came up behind the unknown woman who was bent over in front of her refrigerator. “Who the hell are you?”
The brunette jumped as she dropped an partially open can of Coke on the floor where it spun and hissed as it sprayed cola all over the place. “My god, you’re as sneaky as they say,” stood up, looking Helena in the eyes, both girls with deep blue eyes and black hair looked like they could have been family. As the woman she knew to be the Huntress reached for a kitchen knife, Donna Troy held out her hands. “Wait I’m a friend. I’m Wondergirl.”
