The sun is rising
Arrows always reach their target.
At least they do in her family.
She let the pull of the bow leave a familiar burn across her arms and underdeveloped chest.
The release made her feel as if she were gliding just like the arrow
clean and true focused on a target just coming above the horizon.
The sun glistened against the droplets on her cheeks, that weren't tears but memories of family passed.
She remembered them all,
The mother who seemed to always be making mistakes.
The grandfather always trying to make up for his own.
Aunt Dinah singing her to sleep.
Connor teaching her to use her surroundings.
and her father most of all, who'd always loved her and never in his life failed her.
She would honour their memories,
she wouldn't fail her team.
She protect them.
She had a legacy to uphold.
The sun shined mockingly down on her and she yelled at the sky
"Titans Together!"
Clutching the bow in calloused hands still showing the echoes of her childhood she turned to see her team standing behind her.
She could do this.
Straight and true.
Bedtime Stories
"the cow and the elephant and superman went to the moon in a mini-van, the cow said moo, superman said Luthor how dare you and the elephant sang along- tralalala" Roy closed the book and hugged his baby girl.
"That isn't how it goes daddy!" Lian pouted moving herself back up into a seated position.
"but I've read it a million times babygirl, what's wrong with a little embellishment now and then?" Roy tried to coax Lian down to sleep.
"You had two choices reread the cow and the elephant or tell me a story about what you and uncle dick did last night on patrol." Lian crossed her arms and sat defiantly against fast blinking eyes.
Roy blushed and shuffled.
"We fought crooks?" Roy said hesitantly.
"You're lying dad, you said you wouldn't lie." Lian answered.
"You're right, but it uh wasn't for children. So where were we?" Roy gave a resigned sigh as he ruffled his daughter's hair and opened the book to try and read it once more.
"Superman and the mini-van." Lian said with a cheshire grin.
"But you said-"
"Embelliusshments are ok now and then."
Roy laughed and began talking about the cow and the elephant and the Bat chasing Clark on a dark black cat.
