Well, in the past few days, I've managed to flip flop my life (particularly my schedule,) but in a good way. It's a little drastic, but I'm fairly confident that it will be the right decision.
I've pretty much come the conclusion that I cannot be self supporting the degree (income) that I need while going to school full time at HVCC. The jobs that are available are horrible jobs, with low pay and awful hours that conflict with every aspect of my HVCC schedule. So, I was looking at a newspaper the other day and and spotted a job opening for a Medical Transcriptionist. I see them all the time, they're always in the paper, but I figured that I'd call and ask them a little bit about the position. The woman on the phone explained to me the experience needed. So I went to my mom's house and discussed it with her. She mentioned that the college she's going to be working at, Mildred Elley, has a program designed specifically for Medical Transcription. I made an appointment with a woman named Elissa, who works at Mildred Elley and she told me about the school. The course would cost $4500 per semester. The classes are set up so that you take two classes at a time for seven week periods. An easy class, and a hard class. The course would take a year to complete if I wanted to get the certificate to be a Medical Transcriptionist.
Now, my plan is to drop my HVCC schedule for one year and attend Mildred Elley. Get the Medical Transcriptionist certificate and be assinged a job as a Medical Transcriptionist, (ME claims to have a 100% career placement rating.) Then I would resume persuing my MSW, (go back to HVCC and eventually to a four year, then to grad school.) But this time around, I'd have a job that paid at least $15/hr that I could do at home in my own time, which would save me money on gas and be easy on my car. In the end, it would actually help me get through the rest of my college education, as opposed to just sticking it straight through with the MSW and continuing to do shitty jobs even after I got I finished a four year school and continue that until I finally became a Social Worker.
It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is.
In other news, the move is tomorrow. I'm about to head over to
dirusdraconis's house and pack my things, do a little laundry and put the boxes in my car. Then drive back up to
forestfire's and
lokiswings's to stay the night there. Then at some point tomorrow, head over to the new house and begin unpacking. :) I'm very excited about this, never mind the fact that moving is such a pain in the ass. The excitement is still shining through. Although I'm sure I'll be slapping myself for ever saying that by the end of the weekend ;)
