Most people know Tobey Maguire from the Spiderman films. It is a shame more people don’t point at him and say, “Hey, isn’t that the guy from “Pleasentville”, but that movie didn’t have enough special effects or explosions to hold the attention of the average movie goer. Outside of his films, Tobey has also been quite the live poker player. Not only do we believe a poker pro like Phil when he says Tobey has won millions of dollars, but the evidence also shows up in his tournament record.

A few years ago, poker forums, online poker blogs, and TMZ types were all a twitter when Tobey was still playing at the WSOP Main Event when there were less than 500 people left playing. After players and news outlets had some fun suggesting that he using “spider sense” to cheat at poker, Tobey was eventually eliminated in 292nd place; taking home $39,445. In 2004 he won the National Championship of Poker’s Phil Hellmuth Invitational. This added $95,480 to his bankroll. In fact, between 2004 and 2007 he has several impressive money finishes and final table appearances at high profile poker tournaments.

Whether it is his schedule or the possibility that he got tired of all the spidey sense/cheat at poker quips, he has been less active on the tournament scene since 2007, and is probably content to take money from the rest of his Screen Actors Guild brothers and sisters. This does not diminish his accomplishments or his skills. He is without a doubt one of the best celebrity poker players on the planet.
