Alkari?!!! Holy cow when did you find the time to write this?!!!! It was lovely and wonderful and completely plausible as to why/how Sirius got all of that stuck to his wall.
I'm so glad you shared this with us. It makes this horrible blizzard we're in the midst of more homey and warm as I've got this story to curl up with. Thanks again and a wonderful bit of writing, you!!!!!
Thanks :) I've been playing around with it for a week or so, and wondering whether I submit it to FictionAlley, now the Quill is finished. *sigh*. Though I may just start a new journal for my writing, when the mood takes me ...
Blizzards *shivers* Hope you are all OK. It's lovely and warm and humid/muggy here - forecast of a possible storm later. We NEED the rain. Am busy working out Christmas Day menu for cold food and salads - will cook the turkey buffe the day before, and serve it cold, along with ham. Seafood for starters, and the only hot thing will be the pudding. Served with brandy custard and ice cream, of course! May even do my ice cream Christmas pudding ... :)
I like how Andromeda and Ted Tonks came into the picture! What a great idea. And of course it was his Gryffindor friends who gave him the banner. It's sadly true to canon how Sirius is willing to take his punishment to get what he wants. That same righteous streak let him helped him survive Azkaban, living in caves and back again at Grimmauld Place. Thanks for writing this. It's wonderful to read your writing again and I haven't read Marauder era fic. in ages.
Quite a good 'missing moment' read. You've caught Sirius' youth and his desire for independence from his family, while not missing out on Christmas dinner and presents. Andromeda is one of my favorite characters so it was nice to have the glimpse of how she had learned to walk a narrow line to pacify her family while still keeping true to her own beliefs.
I loved the foreshadowing of 'With any luck, Uncle Alphard would find a way to visit him later, and might even sneak up some pudding.' Uncle Alphard to the rescue!
Ice plant is a rather common succulent perennial (Aizoaceae) which is used a lot on beaches in California to resist erosion. A common variety is the color of your icon flowers.
so that is how the banner got up there, I really like the family support being on the quiet, someone needs to tell Sirius that he could be a serious information gatherer at these family occasions
This was a delightful read! Love that Sirius weighs out how much trouble he's going to be in, and decides that it's worth it. Beautiful story--and of course, yay for Andromeda!

Is that ice plant in your icon?

And yes, Uncle Alphard may have been in SLytherin, but if he left money to his renegade nephew, I assume he had something of a soft spot for him :)
