More Than Friends?
“Hurry up, Rei. Get to me already!” Mina urged her friend.
Everyone chuckled at Mina’s impatience as Rei seemed to take her time running her fingers over the astrological charts. “Patience is a virtue, Mina,” Rei clucked her tongue. “Now I suppose you’ll just have to go last.”
Mina sighed, sinking back into her seat. Kai wrapped his arm around her and pulled her against him, to which she happily complied. They sat on a plush chair, while the others were scattered into various places around Rei and Joel’s apartment. Usagi thought that it would be fun if Rei read their astrological signs (and confirmed that she and Mamoru were destined for each other). So far the results had been fairly amusing among the young group of people. Usagi was satisfied to know that she and Mamoru were a cosmic match as were Nick and Makoto. Joel’s perfect match was Rei, although Rei had not yet done her own reading. Laughter had rung out as Ami’s face turned red when Rei declared that she and Kai were astrologically matched, which had in turn resulted in matching pouts from Zane and Mina. What really got a laugh was when Rei declared that Mina was Zane’s match. Nick had nearly fallen out of his seat in a fit of laughter while Joel actually did fall back on the floor from his seated position next to Rei.
“Why is that so funny?” Zane demanded.
“Oh come on, Zane!” Joel barely squeezed out between his fits of laughter. “Seriously! You and Mina!”
“I’d have an easier time believing you and Mamoru before you and Mina!” Nick exclaimed.
“You think that someone who is interested in Kai wouldn’t be interested in me?” Zane huffed.
Joel and Nick exchanged a look before breaking out into more laughter. Kai sat there quietly watching the exchange.
Mina looked over to see Kai’s calm expression and pouted. “Are you just going to give me up without a fight?” she asked wide eyed.
“Who am I to get in the way of true love?” he insisted.
“Wait a minute,” Zane protested, sitting straight up in his seat next to Ami. “What does he have that I don’t?”
“Speaking of love!” Rei loudly interrupted the banter going on around her. She glanced at Joel warning him with her eyes to not continue. Zane slowly leaned back into the couch and Ami patted him consolingly on his arm with a smile pulling at her lips. Makoto pulled Nick from his seat to sit next to her on the floor. Usagi and Mamoru though continued to look at each other as if they had their own joke between themselves. “Now,” Rei continued, “let’s see what Mina’s chart says….” Her voice trailed off as she ran her fingers over the chart on the table.
“Not that this really matters,” Mina looked dreamily at Kai. “I’m sure we all know who my perfect match is?” He smiled at her and placed a butterfly kiss on her nose.
“You have to be kidding me!” Rei exclaimed.
Joel leaned over her shoulder and snorted. “You guys are going to love this.”
“What does it say?” Usagi asked leaning forward with her eyes wide.
“Nothing, this whole thing is really silly,” Rei protested.
“It’s not myself is it?” Mina asked. “That would just be so unfair.”
“Even better,” Joel chuckled. “It’s Rei!” Rei’s face instantly turned bright red and Mina’s mouth fell open. “You are the greatest girlfriend ever!” he exclaimed before comically kissing her.
“Kai,” Mina whined, “aren’t you going to say something?”
Kai cleared his throat and tried to stop himself from smiling. “As I said before, who am I to get in the way of true love?”
“Don’t you know anything, Kai?” Joel sighed as he shook his head. “When presented with this situation the correct response is to demand visitation rights.”
“Dream on,” Rei snorted, rolling her eyes as she pushed him away.
