extremely loud and incredibly close AND everything is illuminated - jonathan safran foer
lolita - vladmir nabokov
an imaginary life - david malouf
and you've probably read cat's cradle, right? anyway, the last two books i read for my english class and they are both beautifully written. lolita, if you haven't read it, is about a very intelligent pedophile, and an imaginary life is a fictional account of the life of the roman poet ovid after his mysterious exile from the empire.
sweet! i can also probably loan all or some of these books to you.
atonement (this is a must-read) buddenbrooks (you know how i feel) disgrace (kind of weird and disturbing but a great page-turner) middlesex (needed to add a book that isn't on a philip fisher syllabus)
Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins. Seriously, it holds the key to life. I don't know if that's true, but I felt like it held the key to life right after I finished it. And aside from that it's really funny and entertaining, and features a Can o' Beans as one of the main characters. What more could you ask?
