I'm currently studying in Italy, and for the most part, I'm loving it very much. The weather, the people, the culture, the food...you name it, I love it. I don't even mind the public transport with their periodic strikes. I only have one serious complaint, really: The procedure to get the permesso di soggiorno (residence permit) in Italy. It took me one year to get my first permesso (and it's valid for one year, so by the time we got it it's sort of a moot point), and now it's time to renew....one of my classmates has been waiting for a year and a half for her renewal, and during that period, we cannot travel outside of Italy, except for direct flights to our home country, and if we get formally invited to conferences and stuff.
We (me, a Russian girl, and a Chinese girl) are going to 'camp' at the questura (police office) this Saturday, as our university is arranging for first time applicants to have a huge special appointment session, and we are hoping that they'll be able to slip us in for the renewal also :P
Wish us luck :)
