Falling into the black hole of celebrity gossip surfing

Jul 06, 2013 23:18

Yes, it happens to all of us at one time or another - we (okay, I won't involve you) - I fall into a sinkhole of celebrity gossip and can't get out. In the recent past it's been the Cumberbatch that has dragged me into the mud, but today it was some completely random shit - god, I can't even remember how it started! I ended up reading a lot about ( Read more... )

why do i even bother, deep thoughts, mumbo jumbo, true blood, what the actual fuck, i don't make this stuff up, snarking about

Warehouse 13 is cancelled? I had no idea! I'm in the middle of a re-watch -- I'm up to season three now -- but wow. I'm shocked. I mean, yes, some of the episodes were pretty awful and none of them were great, but I love the characters so much and the weird family they formed.

Man. Like so many of the shows I've loved: great idea, great characters, and sucky scripts (SGA, I'm lookin' at you). Damn. I will really miss those guys.

Yes, I know, right? There seems to be no explanation for it, from what I've read (which isn't much), and I think the cast is majorly disappointed. ANOTHER one of those cases where SyFy can't back its own horse. Ever since Farscape I've been stunned with their poor choices and lack of loyalty. I don't even feel bad for getting Lost Girl elsewhere.

It's a shame because really - they do have a great weird family and the potential is there for the occasional great episode. :(

This icon. This icon all the time. (May I swipe?)

Also: I am STUNNED by how many good/entertaining shows get cancelled when they STILL make crap like (insert ANY REALITY TV SHOW EVER here). Srsly, wtf.

You mean the TEN demands an explanation for this BULLSHIT? LOL I love that icon. YOUR ICON HOWEVER IS SO SAD :(

Steal it! And credit "dana-cz".

The amount of money reality shows make versus cost makes them clear winners for those whose mandate is the bottom line at expense of creative vision. But SyFy makes me crazy because they will spend a SHIT TON of money on something like Defiance and then cancel their regular lineup/fanbase shows and then fail to promote it adequately and... it's not any good anyway. (See: Stargate: Universe).

Agh, it's cancelled? What the what? Mrgh. Aside from that though, the Spike and Giles reunion was terribly nice. Myka's storyline, not as much.

Yeah, sorry. I mean, it's not a spoiler, but I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I think I saw it on Eddie McClintock's Twitter - he said something about being unemployed.

Spike & Giles! Brothers, oddly enough, although one always forgets that James Marsters is older than Spike was.

Myka's storyline bugs me so much. I'm like UGH NOT THE CANCER STORYLINE AGAIN. They have a zillion artifacts that could solve that problem, so it's lame. And her not wanting to get treatment is lame, and so OOC. And everything. Lame I say!

And her not wanting to get treatment is lame

This is what bothers me the most. She is the most anal, preventative, careful person and then they have her react like that? I don't get it. And as you say, totally lame.

(Also, I started watching some Lost Girl episodes - I'm amused. :))

Loyalty is in the gnat's navel.

Much Anthony Head silver foxiness in his sole episode in New Tricks, worth watching the ep for that.

I was trying to find out when Revenge S3 is starting and the best answer I could find is "maybe never" so sorry that one of your shows has Joined the Choir Invisible, but at least you have closure?

New Tricks requires actual DVDs to come to my house and I don't really do that, but it's on my list of to-watch! Love that silver foxiness factor.

I'm not that upset about Warehouse 13 on the whole. I have been way more upset about other cancellations, I'm just shocked (not really) that another SyFy show with a loyal fanbase about a bunch of wacky people in a made-family with plenty of material should get axed so soon. As you say: loyalty, gnat's navel.

Sorry about Revenge - but all is not lost yet? But if they're not filming, that's not a great sign.

At least if it's gone, Revenge went out in an epiphany of fanservice, killing off the two least popular characters and hinting broadly that #3 had been bumped off too.

I started watching W13 kind of as background music during summer freelance sessions, so I'm not deeply attached, but I find it quite pleasant and yes, I am all about ASH and JM sharing a screen again.

I am a season behind on True Blood because I rent them when they come out later, but I should think there must be a lot of Eric/Bill and Eric/Bill/Sookie out there? And I'm even guessing the actors must know that? But I don't follow the fandom at all.

Yes it's only good as background music, but there's something quirky and adorable about it.

I don't know that there is a lot of fanfic for True Blood out there at all? Not that I'm aware of anyway. Or it's in another place entirely. And I wouldn't find my ship(s) (Eric/Lafayette with the occasional Bill/Sam). I think the actors just love each other and ASkars is particularly naughty anyway.

See, this is how I know I am so out of touch with the fannish mindset, and I definitely can't read slash 'ships correctly, because the ships I assume are big, aren't always. I just looked at both AO3 and fanfiction.net, and Eric/Sookie is way in the lead, with Eric/Godric in second, Sookie/Bill following, and a nice fourth for Pam/Tara. I'm not surprised about Sookie with the male leads, nor that Sookie/Eric is the most popular, but I would have guessed Eric/Bill way ahead of Eric/Godric, and it's not even listed in the top 'ships. Good for Pam/Tara, though. Of course I haven't seen this current season so that may have *something* to do with my wrong guessing.

There are a few Eric/Lafayette stories on AO3, fwiw.

It's a terrible show this season, innit?

But I sort of love how some of the actors do NOT take themselves seriously, at least on set. There should be way more blowjobs in a show so gay, I'm just sayin'.

I am enjoying moments, but I agree it's not a strong season so far. I just hope Eric or Jessica gets nekkid soon.

Dunno...in a show with vampires, I could see the characters being all "Teeth in new places!" when it looks like somebody's going downtown.
