The longer you go without writing in LJ, the harder it is to get back into it.

I've been away, not really fannishly participating in any way -- and yes, it's true, life is often better with fandom than without, so let's DIVE BACK IN.

To celebrate the cold shock of jumping back in, here is a photo of me. I'm kayaking the San Luis Bay, Pacific Ocean, off of Avila Beach. I forgot to smile for this one:

If I had grandkids, which I don't and can't because, you know, no kids, I'd tell them about working for and with Dan Rather, dating Ron Goldman and then watching his murderer get away with it, September 11th of course, and being at Stonewall for the day Gay Marriage became legal in this state. I wish I was at the Pride parade yesterday, but a person can only handle so much. Needless to say, I am buoyed by this moment in history and proud for once, to be American.

On that note, I saw The Normal Heart on Saturday and it is the most amazing and relevant piece of theatre I've ever seen. You think a play about AIDS from the 80's isn't about today? You are so, so wrong. If you don't live in NYC and can't see or afford to see this play, buy a copy of it. And please consider reading Larry Kramer's message.

Third Star was also a heart-ripper, and I saw it the morning of the night I saw the play, so needless to say, I'm trying to dig myself out of an emo hole. But Third Star - amazing. A really beautiful film, on so many levels. See it even if you're not a relentless stalker of one B. Cumberbatch.

picspam, maudlin me, holidays, glbt, benedict cumberbatch, new york fuckin city, what to expect when you're alive
