nova news

went to kumamoto castle park last night with josh and joel. met up with dozens of other people: nova instructors, a JET dude, freedom school teachers, and japanes friends. drinking in public is allowed in japan and we put down a bunch of blankets and got wasted underneath a full moon and right next to an ancient castle.

nova news: the company may be going bankrupt. i hope we get paid in october and i:ve already applied to 14 other jobs today in hopes that one will want to hire me. luckily i have a valid work visa for a full year so i can go to interviews in person if necessary and i won:t need visa sponsorship until next september. i know two people have already quit and my manager hasn:t been paid since mid-august. apparently it:s only the managers that haven:t got paid yet and the regular instructors have, so i don:t know whats going on. the internet is buzzing with people saying not to go to work anymore because we would be working for free, but i just got here so i dont know what to do. luckily it:s my weekend right now, thursday and friday. josh and i have been rewriting resumes and cover letters at the internet cafe for the past 2 hours and have emailed a bunch out to people that are hiring. who knows, i may get a job in tokyo, and most places seem to be offering money for relocation with a valid visa.

i was really getting down on myself before i came here because i would be working for a corporation, but i rationalized it by thinking it would be a secure job and decent pay. seriously, wtf! but, in a way it:s kind of exciting to think that i may be homeless and jobless in japan. if that does happen, josh and i will take full advantage of japan:s many love hotels...eeeee!

here is the official letter that was sent to all of the nova branches from the head office in osaka. the dark clouds that have been hanging heavily over us will be cast aside. it doesn:t say anything about the security of our jobs... how poetic, though, eh?
