so, my brother came up with the brilliant idea of taking a mental health day today. his original request was that we go to mohegan sun and gamble a little, but i squashed that early on, because a) loooong trip, and b) neither of us really has the money to risk losing. so instead, we decided to be HUGE dorks and go to red bank (otherwise known as home of kevin smith).
i worked the first half of the day, much like last week with jenna, then we left around 2 for south jersey. we hadn't *officially* decided to go to red bank when we left, i was trying really hard to talk him into atlantic city (not because of the gambling, but because i am a closet boardwalk fan.....oops, not so closet anymore.....), and ended up failing. we had a nice, calm drive, and got to red bank without too much trouble, and we went to
the secret stash, where i bought
a fantastic poster, a
reprint of the last page of chasing amy, and a clerks 2 mug, which i can't even link to cause it's not on the stash's site yet! i considered buying a baseball cap, and had i seen the
glow in the dark buddy christ i probably would've bought that too, but yeah. was it lame and touristy? probably (especially when then the only other place we went in red bank was the starbucks across the street, LOL). but it was awesome. oh, and
walt flanagan rung me up not like, five minutes after my brother was like, "look, you can get the fanboy figure with walt flanagan's autograph", not realizing he was like, four feet away. we must've looked like SUCH dumbass tourists. SO classic.
and the fun didn't stop there, because then i begged my brother for us to go to the beach, and he caved, and we ended up at
sandy hook. have you ever been to sandy hook? because it is fucking gorgeous. it's all beachy and shorey and crazy historical and just beautiful, and then when you think you've had enough pretty, there's two observation decks from which you can see the entirety of new york harbor......and, with their mounted binoculars, you can see a huge chunk of long island too. it's really just stunningly beautiful.
and, icing on the cake? the cove where the lifesaving station museum & visitor center is? spermaceti cove. CLASSIC.
so that was my awesome mental health day. i think it actually managed to live up to the concept of the mental health day, because even though i'm like, tired now, i had SUCH a good time today.
and so i leave you with two mp3 gems, together in a zip file.
do you trust me? it's a special treat...... mwah!
