Stargazer make-up is no longer Vegetarian friendly

I emailed them the other day to ask whether their products were still Vegetarian friendly as their website was recently updated to say that they were no longer Vegan friendly. The email conversation is copied below:

From: Me
To: StargazerHello there, I wonder if you might be able to send me a list of ingredients for your products, or even just a ( Read more... )

Stargazer make-up is crap anyway. Their nail polishes chip, the lipsticks are way too dry, the eye shadows aren't bright enough when applied and crumble easily... the foundations crumble EVERYWHERE... so, in summary, they suck :p

The only product of theirs I use is the white powder, for highlighting under cheekbones etc when doing goth makeup (I don't have the patience for the full on gothic geisha white-out anymore!). Eyeshadows, nail polishes etc I stick with Barry M for - who don't do animal testing: http://www.barrym.com/info/animal-friendly.asp

Mmm, yeah I love Barry M; practically all my eyeshadows are from them. But they don't do foundation and I'm not a big fan of their eye/lip liners. looks like I'll be investing (and it is an investment!) in some Urban Decay make-up shortly...

My favourite foundation is Clinique, but I think they're not vegan friendly...

They test on animals:

("Except where required by law" means that they're introducing new ingredients all the time and so test those on animals. There's a debate as to whether we really need all these new ingredients for cosmetic purposes when there are already plenty out there that do the job just fine...)

Ah, crap. I'm not vegetarian or anything like that but that does make me feel a little bad... hmm... note to self: must find good foundation by somebody who doesn't test on animals...

I checked Barry M's website and it looks like they do foundation after all:

I don't know how good it is though.

A company I can highly recommend is Urban Decay:

They're not cheap but they're vehemently anti animal testing, label which of their products are Vegan and their stuff is gorgeous to use. A little goes a very long way.

I haven't tried any of their stuff yet (and they're also expensive) but Illamasqua are also safe from animal testing:
http://www.illamasqua.com/
However I believe they use Carmine in some of their make-up, which means that those products are not Vegetarian. Actually, I may email them next and see what their reply is...
