My sister would like me to point out that Satan is a construct of Judaism, though the Satan of Christianity is not the same (hell is a contruct of Christianity and does not exist in Judaism, for example). Satanism doesn't predate Christianity, but it theoretically could. Either way, it isn't paganism. :P

Rereading this entry is an excellent example of why I shouldn't make posts when I've been awake for so long. DX TYPOS/FLUBS MUCH!? AND GOD I MISS MY HARD DRIVE SO I COULD EDIT/FIX BOOK COVERS TO MY LIKING.

I did think of that since the bridge of, of course Judeo-Christian faith exists and therefore that and I was equating (on a historical level) Satan with hell (I always think of George Carlin's "The Jews are smart; they don't believe in hell.").

Yeah, I was ready to punch the author in the face for that one (although, to be fair, the mention of "feminazis" in the last book made me angrier since it was more flippant). Maybe in the future some sort of Dead Sea Scrolls has arisen to "prove" the existence of Satan in Paganism? ;^) But yeah, research FAIL.

I mostly pointed it out to make my sister happy. A big pet peeve for her is hearing people say things came from Christianity as if Judaism didn't exist first. She knows you weren't doing that, and totally understands why the inaccurate correlation of Satanism and Paganism is problematic. We're both sorry that most of the world does it wrong in terms of seeing the difference.

I don't read anything by this author, precisely because she tends to be inaccurate and offensive as all hell.
