I'm totally not crying. That's just my watery, clear mascara running!
I'm frightened of those Amazon reviewers who couldn't follow the tone. They must frequent Twilight forums, poor dears.
Sorry for being trigger-gun liberal, but most books "push an agenda" or to use a less moronic term, have messages and themes to impart and it's quite up to the reader to take them to heart or not. Kids are capable of picking and choosing messages and themes. If I'd taken to heart every book I'd read I'd ever read, including my dystopia books, I'd be -- well, not a functional person, that's for sure.
As for the penguins having various sexual partners of different genders? It's because they're cool!
I laughed (bitterly) at the quote from the moron from FotF. She clearly didn't read the book since it has no political message, it's just a sweet book.
And don't feel bad about teh sniffles; when I read about this story in MoS, I went "AWWWWWWW!!!!" loud enough to draw stares.
I wonder if it's typical for captive penguins to mate for six years. That's what happened to the male penguin couple in San Francisco that was mentioned on TCR. I thought that the book was about them (I'd never read it)--how many more waterfowl are pushing the liberal agenda?!
And seriously, Ms. Cushman's argument about school libraries sounds like it would be quickly forgotten when books come around pushing, you know, "moral" themes:P
San Francisco and NYC.... are we surprised?! The gay penguins are pushing their agendas from the gay capitals! OUR CHILDREN AREN'T SAFE!!!
Yeah, that quote was hilarious. Clearly, she hadn't read the book (or A book, unless you count the Bible, and she clearly left out the important parts for an obscure passage in Leviticus).
The penguin love is so sweet. I want to read it so much. It's so ridicilous to ban the book! I mean, nobody is forcing kids to read it, and even if they did, the message is not "Become a gay penguin" It's that being gay is natural.
"only going to encourage children to become gay penguins themselves and try to hatch rocks. A shame, really." LOLxD You wrote it perfectly.
