It takes a Village

Oct 24, 2007 15:14

This morning in the Village, on my way to the subway, I saw a little old lady tottering down the sidewalk, supported on the arm of a very tall, rather unattractive, and completely obvious transvestite who was wearing an unfortunate, brilliantly torquoise summer dress. I wonder where they were going?

Okay, totally off topic but I don't have your email address anymore and you may be the best person to ask:

Do you know of any bakeries in the city that might deliver a birthday cake (say, to a restaurant)?

God, no clue. However, I do know that quite frequently restaurants are familiar with nearby bakeries that can fulfill such a request. I would check with the restaurant to see if they can recommend a bakery.

(You might also try William Greenberg Desserts, 212-861-1340, but I don't know whether they deliver.)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I looked at the Greenberg web site, and it seems like a strong possibility. I actually like the idea of little individual cakes or cupcakes, just because it would be something different. I take it you've had stuff from there, and it's good?

You raised a good point, by the way: Before I do anything, I should check with the restaurant. For all I know, they may have an attitude about having an outside cake and/or they may have a solution that's right in the neighborhood (Hell's Kitchen).

Thank you for concierging -- such a sweetie!

Okay, I ended up ordering from Billy's Bakery. I'm paying out the ass, though. When all is said and done, I am paying $70 to have a red velvet cake delivered to the restaurant. I just couldn't resist. All of their cakes look magnificent, AND Paul loves red velvet cake. So, it's a win.

I'll be relieved though, once I'm at the restaurant and I see the cake has arrived and is intact. Fortunately, the restaurant has been very accommodating about the whole thing -- very accommodating!
