[ Ezio had woken up in some strange places in his lifetime, especially once he became an assassin. But this, this was way different than waking up in, say, a random woman's bed or a bale of hay. The smell was awful, the sheer white of the room blinding as he sat up. He was greeted by a woman, welcoming him to some unfamiliar city -- ]

[Javert's work hours don't begin until the sun sets. Since his wife rolls in the bread with her day job at the hospital, it is up to the husband to conduct daily errands (and other such information-gathering activities for his own uses) while the shops are open. It is during one of these errands that Javert, whilst heading toward Charity Housing Building A, catches what he perceives to be a lost, young, and annoying bird of prey weaving through the city streets with little aim and an astonished demeanor.

Javert's first impulse is to grimace fiercely and go about his business. He has already had not one, but two bad experiences with the white-robed band of curs, and he had no desire to find himself on the wrong end of a blade again, lacking in authority as he is. But something stops him. He takes a closer look, a few booted steps of an approach toward the young man, his brow furrowed and corkscrew gaze lancing through Ezio's soul.

He is almost upon him when he recognizes him, and he cries out in a hiss without a full check of his actions,]

The Italian!

[ Thankfully for Javert - or maybe not - Ezio does not have his blades with him. Not that he would draw them in such a crowded place, the last thing he needed was to incite a riot in the streets of some city he did not know. At least back in Italy he could weave through the streets and traverse the rooftops and know exactly where he was going. If he was going to be stuck here for a time, he'd have to start mapping out the place.

So far he has heard his name called by various people - mostly men, it's really disappointing - within the city. No one has called him the Italian yet.

He sees the man before he hears him -- no. That's not right. He feels those eyes on him, a familiar feeling, but he can't quite place it. Ezio as met many people in his life as an assassin, and many people know of him, but... ]

Do I know you, signore?

[Javert checks himself, ten seconds too late. His recognition of the young man takes a backseat, glimmering from the back of his dark, intense pupils as he fixes a stare on Ezio that could turn his pockets inside out. He takes one slow, sure step closer, arms folding forbiddingly across his chest.

To Ezio, this man must more closely resemble a wolf or a well-groomed savage sizing up a rather attractive deer haunch than your average gentleman. He murmurs audibly and fiercely in his native French accent,]

Evidently not.

[Yet that answer, to a smart man, is at stark and obvious pittance against the familiarity in the bestial man's bearing. Ezio may not remember Javert, but Javert remembers you, Ezio.]

[ Even as Javert steps closer, Ezio stands his ground; refusing to be backed into a corner on the chance that this man may be one of his enemies. Without his Eagle Sense he can't just flash into the inverted sight and tell by the colour. He has to go by his instincts.

And his instincts are telling him to be on guard. ]

And what is it you want? [ There's an implication there. An unspoken 'I don't have time for you' in his words. ]

[Javert takes one side-step, ever staring at Ezio with that unnerving, unblinking scrutiny. He tilts his head to one side in a show of deep consideration, his square jaw sinking slowly into his high-buttoned collar.

Before Ezio knows it, this forbidding stranger turns the questions around without offering a semblance of an answer himself.]

When did you come? Awaken, then, in the hospital. [His gaze flickers for only a moment toward the direction of the hospital, then settle again on the younger man.] Was it today?

[ In response, the assassin pivots, following the man's movements. He only takes his eyes off Javert long enough to glance about at his surroundings, as if judging where he could go and how fast he could get there if the need arose. Not that he had any intention of fleeing, but it was good to know your options. He would have to learn more about the city anyway, ]

A few moments ago, [ Of course he notices that the man didn't answer him, but he will play along for now. ] Why does it concern you?
